I do think we have enough secondary talent to get the job done next year. With white, Sincere, Bush, and some other practice squad guys I think we will find one or two diamonds. The FO has a great eye for talent and made an entire offense out of no name guys that got us to the SB. I hope in the offseason he takes a page out of that book. Hell we NEED to find diamonds considering our cap dilemma. I think if we can get an up and comer in FA our secondary could actually be ok next year.

Assuming we have a pass rush.

Assuming we have a pass rush.

offense is offense and defense is defense
offense has the stats to back it up
defense does not have the stats to back it up

even healthy i do not see the talent at the second level. Byrd needs more talent to be productive. with the group we have now Lewis is the only CB on the roster that helps Byrd and justifies his pay. The rest are reducing Byrd abilities to make an impact. This is a chain reaction effect.

we need a solid #2 CB that can play man. that would allow all the others to try to get it right.

White and Kenny appear to work well in the middle. But neither are quick enough to shut down a WR on quick hitters.

Bush is a solid back SS up off the bench and that is it

Sincere? brains over athletic ability? SS

Ball? serious work in progress athletic ability over brains? SS

SJB? man i knew he was a project but this is stupid. pre season ratings of a 5/6 rounder seem to have been correct. If you can not get on the feild with our secondary right now you gotta be worried.

Dixon? serious work in progress athletic ability over brains

Warren? athletic ability is there. brains seem ok. has a knack for being around the ball.

As i see it we have Lewis, Byrd, White, Bush and Kenny. that is it.

the rest are replaceable at a drop of a hat.

the secondary needs some serious talent infusion. at least 2 CB and a FS

He got beat quite easily by the rams 3rd string team for a TD, he grabbed a pick when a WR batted the pass into the air

Plus we played him vs lions, he was in for one play and his coverage assignment scored a TD.

If the coaching staff won't even put him in on special teams it sounds like a hell of a reach in the second round for a guy that isn't even close to being ready.

Yes, because PRob and White both played great during the pre-season?

PRob got worked almost every pre-season game and so did White.

He played in 1 play versus the Lions and it's the exact play my previous post talked about, if you actually read it.

Lastly, like I said in my last post our coaching staff doesn't know how to develop defensive talent. When is the last time they have drafted or groomed a quality starter? This coaching staff doesn't know talent if it hit them in the face.

Let's take a look at the 2014 body of work for this Tall Bag of Stupid, shall we?

14 weeks for SJB: 8 Defensive Snaps, 30 Special Teams Snaps, 38 Total
SJB has been passed by Brian Dixon, UDFA: 139 Defensive Snaps, 164 Special Teams Snaps, 303 Total
SJB has since been passed over by Terrence Frederick from the Practice Squad. An CB was brought up from the Practice Squad because the coaching staff does not trust SJB enough to touch the field in any capacity yet. Yet.

Luckily Frederick is a bit of a veteran being a 2012 7th Round Pick, and something tells me we'll probably be lucky to get a 7th Round Pick for SJB in 2 or 3 years. Sorry, but I just don't like the notion of drafting "talented projects" that contribute absolutely nothing their first year in the league. I'm sure his teammates appreciate that. I know I do.

:brood:

Well, as promised. My SJB Rant. He'll be 25 years old in Training Camp next year, too, BTW. 1 year in the NFL wasted while rotting on the bench picking his nose. Tick tock, tick tock. Windows in the NFL close very quickly.

This is exactly why he needs to be thrown out there to see what he can do. The Saints don't know how to develop defensive talent, we know this all to well. I, like you, don't want to see SJB sit on the roster for 3 years while the coaching staff reads "how to develop talent: For dummies". Get him on the field and see what he can do, if he flops then cut him and hope he clears waivers for the P squad. Fact is we don't have a #2 CB, even the almighty Dixon has struggled in that role and been beat on multiple occasions. What would you lose giving SJB a few series' as the #2?

Edit: Him being 25 years old really hurts his chances of developing at all. At this rate he'll be 30 before he sees the active roster.

And there was me thinking Kenny Vaccaro's new roll is Holy Grille Elijah's Mediterranean roasted lamb.

Firstly I never said that p-rob and Corey white played great, at this moment in time they have more experience than SJB so unfortunately they are the best options for us.

Secondly I did read your post, but SJB was not lined up on #81 Calvin Johnson on that play, he was lined up on the Lions 4th string WR who barely sees the field and SJB just stood round with his arms up while that WR caught the uncontested TD pass.
