STILL scratching my head....
Can someone PLEASE explain why the Saints aren't in the playoffs? Maybe my USL education didn't teach me as much as I thought it did. After hearing the NFL's reasons, I'm even more baffled than before. Minnesota is in because they beat the Saints, and St. Louis is in because they have a better confrence record. Well....The Saints beat the Rams, and they have a better conf. record than Minnesota. Can anyone please explain to my why we're on the outside looking in!!!

STILL scratching my head....
what happens is when there is a three way tie they look at conference record if there wasnt one team that swept both other teams. so st.louis had the best conference record and got the nod over us and minn. then they start over and with it being between two teams they look at head to head. since minn. beat us they got the other spot.
i didnt understand it myslef at first. someone else on here posted it. but thats it. |

OK, it sucks, but it\'s actually pretty easy to understand.
The first way that the NFL breaks a tie for a playoff spot is by head to head games. There were 3 teams, us, the Rams, and the Vikings. We beat the Rams, the Rams beat the Vikings, and the Vikings beat us. No way to break that. So they go to Conference record. The Rams were 7-5, the Saints were 6-6, and the Vikings were 5-7. Of course, the NFL doesn\'t use the Conference record across the board. They take the best team from that group. The Rams become the 5 cede. Then, only the Saints and Vikings remain. The Vikings beat the Saints, so the Vikings are the 6 cede. It sucks how they change the formula each time, but that\'s how it is. The Vikings essentially put us out of the playoffs by losing 4 of their last 5. They win one of those games and the Saints go b/c we hold the head to head tie breaker with the Rams. Likewise, if Doug Brien can kick a freaking field goal, the Saints are in. But hey, this is New Orleans we\'re talking about. What else do you expect? |
