Having a shutdown corner in the CB 2 slot gives the team the option to rush with four and all out blitz.

I do agree in a way. But even a shut down corner can only cover for so long and if the rush gives a good(not great)qb. enough time coverage breaks down leading to pass completions on a fairly high level. On the flipside a solid front 7 giving any qb. less time and usually lead to more turnovers and more sacks. If I had to pick my poison so to speak I would rather have a stout front 7(run and pass) with decent to good CB. over a bad front 7(2013 Saints) with shutdown corners 24/7. I still wouldn't mind picking up a good to decent vet. in FA this season.

I can definitely see both sides of the argument. Having the stout front seven and mediocre CBs definitely seems to work well that way for a lot of teams(2013 Panthers). The mistakes constantly made by our #2&3 CBs just seem to be so much more apparent every game. I just can't stand how bad they are at both zone and man coverage. Excluding the legend that is Keenan Lewis of course.

see i agree #1 need is a CB.
The one player that can make the biggest impact on the defense is CB

Now the good news is it does not have to work out to be a #1 quality CB in the end. if it did that much better.

Solid #2 CB are out there in FA and none need to be the player you break a bank for.

in the Draft a low risk - high rewards type of CB should be had all the way through the second. picking were we are picking in the third there is little hope of one of them falling to us. so if CB is needed i see the saints taking one in the second or needing to trade back into the second to get one.

notice i did not say you had to spend a first or make him your highest paid FA signing.

Unless you want to sign Revis. the only true shut down CB out there. the pats will not pay him that last year of the contract

Time to make another splash in FA. There are some solid veteran corners out there looking for a new home.

There is way more value in pressure. The whole unit can go from fair to good with one D-lineman that can bust the pocket. I think we address that in RD1. Probably get a CB in 3 or 4. If we don't it will be more of the same on that side.

Thompson or Beasley has to be the first pick if available. The Saints need impact on defense. They can get a starting guard and center in rounds 3-6.

I'm afraid we'll go with Thompson or Beasley in the 1st. Why do people think we need another Junior who can pass rush but is weak against the run?

We were at the bottom of the league in defense due to everyone running on us whenever they wanted. Or needed to.
