Free Agents we Should Care About
Free Agents that we should take a long look at:
WR - James Thrash (Skins) TE - Anthony Becht (Jets) OT - Matt Willig , Ryan Diem (Colts), Floyd Womak (Seahawks) OG - Joe Andruzzi (Pats) CB - Charles Woodson (Raiders), Aaron Beasley (Falcons) DT - Corey Simon (Eagles), Shaun Rogers (Lions) LB - Wali Rainer (Lions), Hannibal Navies (Packers), Julian Petersen (9ers), Will Whitherspoon (Panthers), Jeremiah Trotter (Eagles), Obviously, some of these guys will get resigned (like Simon and Diem), but we can always drool, can't we. Also, we can probably only afford one or two of the name guys here - but I suggested a few LBs that we may be able to get cheaply. Also, I'm of the opinion that we probably don't need a WR (if we resign Gardner), and we probably don't need a TE (but Becht is pretty good). This year, there should be more than a few good OTs available, I just listed my top three. I'm also of the opinion that we don't really need a new OG. There are virtually no Safeties of any note that will be available, so I suggest we look at drafting one (Bellamy is not getting any younger). |

Any reason you didn\'t list Hartwell?

Free Agents we Should Care About
Hopefully this will provide some optimism for our 2005 starting roster that I didn\'t see in the earlier thread.
Not including rookies, here is a possible (of course only given these guys are affordable, which they won\'t all be) starting roster that sounds good to me: QB - Br ks RB - McAllister FB - Karney TE - Becht WR - Horn, Stallworth, Thrash C - Bentley G - Holland, Andruzzi T - Diem, Womak DE - Smith, Grant DT - Rogers, Young LB - Petersen, Watson, Witherspoon CB - Woodson, McKenzie S - Jones, Mitchell |

FV,
Sad that salary cap thing, isn\'t it? For my money, I\'d go for OTs (it is way deep this year) and one STUD LB and a second middle of the pack LB (like Rainer or Navies). I\'d also pay for a DT like Rogers. You\'re quite right though, there is no way we\'re getting Woodson. McKenzie will have to do. We will have close to 12 million (even after resigning McAllister), thanks to Loomis (though, that may be the only thing to thank him for). |

If you are talking about Shaun Rogers from Detroit, he already re-signed with Detroit.

Damn! Figures.
DT is pretty thin in FA. We may need to draft a DT; that would be cheaper anyway. If we can get OTs and LBs in FA, then I say we draft Anttaj Hawthorne... [Edited on 11/1/2005 by JKool] |

I\'ve got to wonder about Thrash. I\'ll just play with the relevant parts of the lineup that I think would make a major coup in free agency. T - Diem, Womak--This would be a MAJOR success if there were NO other moves made during free agency. DE - Smith, Grant DT - Seth Payne (Houston), Young--Payne could be a great 2 gap player. LB - Watson, Hartwell, Adalius Thomas (Ravens) --Peterson would be too great for words, but the niners have to franchise someone and he\'s the best player they\'ve got. CB - Woodson would be a HUGE mistake for Haz. I can\'t see Woodson playing for Haslett. Under the new passing rules, he\'ll probably be too expensive anyway. |
