“The thing you can’t lose track of is those guys in the locker room,” he said. “Those guys as leaders, their presence. Especially when you have young players. Listen, every team is going to have youth. It’s just the nature of the league. A majority of your team is going to be made up of first- to fourth-year players. So that leadership and guidance and institutional knowledge are very critical.”

A lot of this is on Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis. They had a plan, and it failed

Bingo but were is Rob in this picture? What no one talked to him before all the adds and subtractions on defense to see if it fit what he was doing? sorry he was knee deep in this one. if the people in the front are so good at making player moves all by themselves they would be coaching. Rob once again walks away untouched.

no front office just picks players without talking to the coaches as to what players would fit what he is doing.

do not chase the wabbit down this hole

he agreed to most of the cuts and pushed for the players he wanted

he failed all around. end of story.

A couple cuts and restructures should put us in a similar, if not better situation than last year's free agency period. I have faith in Loomis. Just need to chill with the early-round projects when it comes to the draft. Hopefully, our front office changes will help.

And when in the article did Brees "open up"?!?
lmao Brown looked like a pro bowler compared to the way Harris played. the last two years have been really a hard time for the kid. talk about the school of hard knocks as Drew can attest to.

that is why OT is so high on my off season list. no one has stepped up on the depth chart and shown enough to be an adequate fill in.

Have to say this was an excellent point and well-stated...

Shanle may have been a middle-of-the-road linebacker sometimes beaten, but it was by elite talent playing at their very best...

The guy was always on his assignment and played all out...

Would love to have seen him in a 3-4 package with a little more protection around him...

But, it's no secret my affinity for a true 3-4 base defense...

It's obvious now what went wrong. Internal conflict.
