So Kiper has us going Dante Fowler in his mock draft 2.0 huh? I'm not really a Fowler fan... He disappeared all the time in college. But what do I know? I could justify using our first round pick on every single position on defense besides safety.

Kiper actually has us picking Winston in the 2nd

Bernadrick McKinney, ILB Miss State

or

Marcus Peters, CB Washington

My preferences.

McKinney in the first? Maybe no more than 2 down thumper in the NFL. I don't know...

I'll be curious to see how he does at the combine ... specifically his 40 times.
What we desperately need at the LB position is SPEED.

There is no need for that. Loomis is bringing Jerry Hughes in FA. lol

I think people/scouts are falling for McKinneys measurable.

I always worry about players who start rising upbdraft boards after December. Teams/scouts start falling for measurables and what players do in shorts and vests than what they produced on the field. I dont care if the OLB can run .10 quicker than another in shorts. I want to see what he does in the 4th quarter after a 45 minute struggle against a big OT with his cleats, pads and helmet on.

Ill still be watching the combine though

Re: Are we really going to draft a DE in round 1?

As a Mississippi State fan, I love the idea of having Bernadrick McKinney. I think he will be an above average LB for a number of years in the NFL. However, like someone mentioned earlier, we don't need him in the first. It would be nice if the Saints were stacked enough to be able to do that but we need so many other positions than ILB.

Also love Vic Beasley but not what we need. Can anyone answer why we would want Marcus Peters over Trae Waynes? Watched a little tape on both and Trae Waynes seems more consistent.

Re: Are we really going to draft a DE in round 1?

As always we will address needs during free agency allowing us to draft the best player on our board.

You should never plan on a draft pick filling a hole as a starter.

We can never count on players we sign in free agency being a decent starter either.

True but the combine is a mental process & the NFL is highly stressful. By the time you and I see it on tv (position drills, 40 time, cone exercise) these kids are already mentally exhausted. Teams want to see how you handle pressure. Top tier run organizations aren't just looking at a kids measurables/physical upside, but more at consistency.

I always believe that game film/tape is the best evaluation tool there is but agreed, I will be watching the combine as well ;)

I don't know much about his measurables. This is purely off of watching the kid play. He was all over the place for that team running from sideline to sideline. He showed the speed to keep up with and outrun running backs and receivers. I like him a lot.

Shelton is a monster. Wish we could get him without trading up.

I think we go with a safety...you can never have enough safeties.

I just hope it's a good draft. I say BPA. No more Sedrick Ellis, Malcolm Jenkins, Robert Meachem baloney. Other teams get guys after us every year that are studs and we get left over meat loaf.

Still can't believe we wasted a first round pick on Meachem...

BPA is the way to go in rd 1 especially.

I saw serious flashes from Fowler last year. Is he Lawrence Taylor or Renaldo Turnbull? I think he'll be a stud in the NFL.

Benardick McKinney is the guy who will be available when we pick... Without jumping up and if you back him up with a Denzel Perryman pick in the second... now your talking....

I want best available offensive lineman at 13 and then trade back into first round for Perryman

I think that's a mistake.

What if 5 O lineman are picked before us?

And why would we trade up for Perryman when we could grab Paul Dawson in round 2?

Address O line in FA. Keep your draft picks to add youth, speed and energy to the defense.

voodooido 02-18-2015 09:57 AM

Re: Are we really going to draft a DE in round 1?

i just can't see DE being a bigger need that OLB, CB or o-line. Personally I think Vic Beasley would be a great pick in Rd 1

Perryman will be a stud, watch, I don't see that happening, defense is deep this draft and a team or 2 will reach or make a stupid draft pick before Saints pick.

Oline needs an upgrade too, remember Saints have a gabillion dollar HoF QB that can't complete a pass when he's on his back or running for his life

We'll draft a WR, TE, CB, CB, OT, LB.

Are you more comfortable with a proven commodity protecting our "gabillion" dollar investment or a rookie draft pick?

Perryman would be a nice addition. Is he the type of talent you throw 3 draft picks after?

Unless we draft a Center I doubt any offensive lineman drafted will make an impact this year. The team likes Evans, and I think if he is healthy he's a pro-bowler. Grubbs needs to be replaced but not urgently, however having even an average center between the two will dramatically improve the line. I am sure you are aware that Goodwin was among the worst centers in the league last year, some back-ups (Lelito being one of them) rated way higher.

RaginCajun83 02-18-2015 11:56 AM

Re: Are we really going to draft a DE in round 1?

All line spots besides Evans could/should be upgraded
