Mike Mayock on 2015 NFL draft prospects, scouting combine storylines | The MMQB with Peter King

Mayock likes comparing players he’s seeing now to players he’s seen in the past. NFL Network has cataloged all players at the combine since 2003, and when an apt comparison surfaces from something Mayock sees or from the composite workout of a player, that comparison will be illustrated on air.


A few comparisons Mayock sees now, before the workouts:
Defensive tackle Leonard Williams, USC :: Richard Seymour.

Nose tackle Danny Shelton, Washington :: Haloti Ngata.

Safety/linebacker/running back Shaq Thompson, Washington :: Deone Bucannon.

Outside linebacker Dante Fowler, Florida :: Justin Houston.

Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, Miami :: Mike Wallace.

Good read. Mayock and Gil Brandt are the two guys I like to read when it comes to the combine and the draft.

This guy has versatility written all over him. A few on this board wanted the ball hawking safety Deone last year (myself included). Maybe we snag Shaq this time around.

I can't put my finger on why but this year I just don't care about the combine or the draft, I hope that changes before it shows up but who knows

Nah its not that, I think its a mixture of the Saints not firing the 3 Stooges (Vitt, Johnson, McMahon), Payton's lack of fire this last season and oh yeah the big guy next to me in my avatar

the million dollar question how would saints fans react when he lines up at SS in a 34? :shock:

in a 43 he can play ILB or OLB. so with the screwy set ups rob runs god only knows were he would end up

Sounds a lot like kenny huh. though i bet he would be a big upgrade to kenny.

Unless someone intends to use him as a RB he'll be a huge miss for any defensive position.

Take best Oline at 13 and trade back into 1st for Perryman

I know, but most have him projected as a Safety at the next level because he is too small for LB in the NFL and doesn't play the run well.

He rushed the passer at a decent level in college but keep in mind he had the nations sack leader lined up on the other side along with Danny Shelton pushing the middle. How Shaq gets more praise and will be drafted higher than the sack leader Ill never get.

Who is the offensive player coach is going to fall in love with this week. Somebody that will be there rounds 2-5 that is just too good a player/project to good to turn down?

Would he touch a players like Green-Beckham?,maybe the most talentes receiver in the draft if he is there in rounds 2/3.

If he is there in the 3rd I'd take him in a heartbeat. I'd make that gamble. Have Colston and Brees take him under their wings.
