Curtis Lofton Released
1 Attachment(s)
According to @AdamSchefter ·
Saints officially released LB Curtis Lofton today. Saints released ILB Curtis Lofton. The Saints had been shopping Lofton for trade, but predictably found no takers. The move clears $4.25 million in space for the cap-strapped Saints. A durable compiler, Lofton has never missed a game while racking up tackles, but is coming off an extremely rough 2014. He was uneven all three of his years in New Orleans. Going on 29, Lofton has been a starter for his entire seven-year career, but may have to accept a reduced role in free agency. Re: Curtis Lofton Released
How much money? 4-5Mil in cap savings?
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Mason Foster, come on down!
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
I think his number is $4.25 million
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Well sir, i dont like it.
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Coach isnt playing this summer
Saves 4.2ml or 7.2ml depending on pre/post june cut. |
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Well the onus is really on the coaches now. NO MORE EXCUSES! Do it now or the heads better roll.
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
We need youth and athleticism at the position. Mr Lofton thank you but it's time to move on.

I understand this move. We need to get younger and faster. Lofton was solid player for us but nothing more. His stats are misleading (tackles...) |
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Now let's get somebody who can cover a little...
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Liked Lofton a lot but a step too slow in the flat. I would have thought Hawthorne would have been released first.
NEXT. |
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Misses too many tackles and below average in coverage for that much money.
He might re-sign with us later... |
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
And the beat goes on.....
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Tough one because he was a great leader. It was inevitable though once word got out that he was on the trade block. He gave it his all and stayed classy throughout our defensive trials and tribulations. I'll always root for him.

Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Kind of on the fence with this one. I think he played his heart out for the black & gold, which is more than I can say for some other players still on the roster. But he wasn't worth his price-tag, so moving forward this was a good move. I think more than anything, Lofton was let down by the FO and the coaches by not giving him a supporting cast with whom to succeed with.

Re: Curtis Lofton Released
I wish we would sign a LB,OL,or CB already....I'm getting antsy!
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
I'm not going to get upset . Not the guy I saw us cutting. We'll have to see how it shakes out. LB is now the weakest position group on the team even more so. Who going to fill that hole ???????
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Makes you wonder what kind of plan for his replacement is...
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
some decent talent left and ILB in FA that won't break the bank. We sign Langford to a one year. Get a replacement for Lofton in FA and defense defense defense in the draft

ok i am getting all fired up for a new season of roast the Rob
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
I like this move, big picture: the money can be used to find a 3 down LB in free agency and a corner.
Question: what happens to the 5 million in dead money? WWL reported it saves the team 9.5 million towards the cap? Is that correct? |
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Any dead money will count against the cap,i guess the team will pay up any guaranteed money to Lofton.
If he was posted as a post june 1st cut it saves over 7ml against the cap |

Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Who needs LBs anyway? We'll just play 6 safeties.
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
I read the Bears might be interested in Foster. The biggest obstacle for us is convincing him to play for Ryan instead of Fangio...and the fact that we passed on him in the draft for Tez doesn't help us either, but who knows?

Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Saints listed LB Curtis Lofton as terminated w/ 'failed physical' designation on NFL transactions wire. Evan Woodbery (@TheSaintsBeat)
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Curtis Lofton cut with a “failed physical” designation. Why? Voluntary shoulder scope on 1/7. Semantics. Will be fully cleared in 2-3 weeks. Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet)
|
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
Because Lofton doesnt appear to be designated as post-June 1 release, will count entire $5M in dead money against '15 cap. Evan Woodbery (@TheSaintsBeat)
What you talking about Loomis? |

Let's completely revamp our Linebackers! |

Re: Curtis Lofton Released
It's going to cost us $5 million for us to have him NOT play here next year.
That money's gone. Yes, we get 4 against the cap, but what are we going to pay a replacement? Either way the position is going to cost us at least 8. Not sure I get it when we could have converted his and Gallette's bonuses |

My guess is we're looking for for a true 3 down 3-4 ILB, and he isn't it. Also, personnel moves made this year aren't specifically made only for this year. |
Re: Curtis Lofton Released
I heard a lot about lack of leadership and veteran presence as a reason for last years suckage. Lofton was one player who did well for the most part. Maybe just not a good leader or motivator?
