A Breakdown of Why the JG Trade Makes Sense

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; The article also pointed out something that had me curious. The Seahawks just traded for a guy that they COMPLETELY took out of a playoff game, and that one of their own players called out for being soft. Odd....

Great article. good analysis and insight into why a lot of saints fans are not outraged by the trade. Graham has been a monster for us but his shortcomings have become more glaring over the years.

Injury issues, drive killing drops, lack of physicality when the ball is not already in his hands, lack of consistency towards the end of the season, etc.

I wish Graham all the best but I'm all for this deal. Plus graham will realize in Seattle it's a lot different having wilson throw you the ball than brees. He will make an impact but not the huge impact everyone is expecting.

I finally got my wish. Now I would like a TE like Shockey, one with a heart and passion for the great game of football.

He mentions Minnesota TE Maxx Williams, who I mentioned here too. He speculates the Saints could take him at 31, but with a 4.78 40 at the combine we could get him in the 3rd or even 4th round, I think. I do lo like the guy though. He reminds me of Jason Witten. He is a tough blocker and good route runner with soft hands.

THey may not say it but essentially we have entered rebuilding stage.
You mean reloading stage. We aren't rebuilding until #9 is no longer the QB in Nola. Payton's good at retooling the makeup of a team. He did it in 2006, 2009, and 2013.

Wilson's no slouch and has mastered improvisation. He emulates Brees in a lot of instances. His accuracy has been way better since 2013. And hes only what, 25 years old or something?

I didn't say he was terrible but it's different going from a guy that could throw you open and put some additional touch on the ball and a guy that's throwing in more unconventional ways. Just to illustrate, drew was second in the league in completion percentage last year even though he didn't have a great year. Wilson was 20th. To further add to that brees had more completions than wilson had attempts. I think wilson is a franchise guy but if we're talking about purely passing, it's not even close.

I like the trade but I don't want us to waste the draft pick..... We have 2 first rounders we can get some key players here I hope we don't mess it up

The Dallas Cowboys of the 90's proved it out.

That line is the single most important aspect of football (assuming the QB isn't an idiot). And we certainly aren't devoid of talent without Jimmy. We have weapons. Plenty of them. What we don't have anymore is domination up front. We have a QB who will kill opponents with just a little time and the ability to step up in the pocket.

Ingram WILL rush for 1200+ easy next year. Hill will have people saying "Jimmy who?" after 4 or 5 games. Drew will be as solid as ever, his deep ball will make a miraculous return, and we WILL be contenders. All of this IF we fix the o-line, and the JG trade goes a long way to that end because we just put a friggin beast at Center. I'm betting Evans rebounds a bit. Not sure about Grubs. We shall see.

This was a WISE move by the front office. WISE I tell you all.

Now, lets not blow that extra 1st rounder please.

Thank you.

We all are certainly hoping the truck so.
