Outside of Marquise Lee and Lattimore every one of them had a really good season and a fair few started coming on stronger and stronger as the year went on.

Saying that WR dont come in and perform straight away is wrong imo. They may not be top 5 receivers in the league but we see more and more that college players are ready to go. For me TE may struggle as they have more to do than WR but you give a WR some simple routes and they get you yards.

pretty good post!

Great class of WRs
Maybe the greatest receiving class ever

I'd be happy with Cooper or White at 13. Both have superstar potential.

You don't draft for need, you draft BPA.

But even so, with the absence of Graham and Stills, WR has become a pretty significant need.

I would really like to see Jaelen Strong late in the 1st or early 2nd. The kid is a stud. 2287 yards and 17 tds in 2 years on a subpar ASU.

Re: Just say NO to a Wr in the first round ...

Our WR's have never been strong. After losing Stills and Graham I am down with drafting a WR in the first round. But I really want a G or defense with both of our first round draft picks.

Good research and post. I should edit my post above to say in the Payton era when has any rookie made a major impact - particular a WR? Colston and Reggie were rookie impacts. JG really not much his first year that I recall. Redzone was kind of strong. I guess the Mecham, Toon and other projects we draft just have me unsure if we can quickly implement rooks into the game.

This draft may not have guys like Amari Cooper or Kevin White in later rounds but, I do feel the class has value in later rounds for players to come in & contribute right away. Tyler Lockette, Tre McBride are a couple of examples of this.
Wanna replace Graham ? I'd love to see the Saints draft Minnesota te Maxx Williams at 31 if he's there or @ 44 (which he probably would be gone already).
Please - enough about getting a wr in the first round !!! Even Sean Payton said this is a deep draft for wrs !!!

Maxx Williams is a bad dude! He'd be an instant fan favorite.

Re: Just say NO to a Wr in the first round ...

Yea im in the number that's completely fine with WR at 13. Heres the thing, im only interested in big, possesion type WRs with some speed as well...in other words, a true # 1. Which we dont have. Colston is clearly coming to an end. As said earlier too, these wr's are coming in & adjusting to the game at a more rapid pace we've seen im years & that could be attributed to the great class that came in last year. The thing with that is, this class could easily be just as good.

With that said, im only interested in the top 6 guys on my Board who fit that #1 mold....

Kevin White - Julio Jones like
Devante Parker - AJ Green like
Dorial Green-Beckham - Calvin Johnson like
Amari Cooper - Smoother Victor Cruz like
Jaelen Strong - faster Alshon Jeffery like
Breshaud Perriman - Dez/Alshon like

Outside of these guys i can see less production in the first year as you were concerned with, maybe with the exception of Nelson Agholor, Devin Smith, Phillip Dorsett, Tyler Lockett. But theyre more in the mold of what we have in cooks(smooth route runner/shifty speedsters who can take the top off.)

Theres my argument why id be just fine with A WR in the first. Only 4 id consider with pick 13 tho & thats:
Devante Parker
Kevin White
Amari Cooper
Dorial Green-Beckham(yes i kno we can wait maybe til 31, but we all know with out the off field issues he's a lock for the top 15. Im just looking for the saints to draft Football players who can make a difference regardless of position.)

Other than that...Defense the rest if the way! With the exception of a Guard, which i love Shaq Mason in the 5th if he falls. Had a great pro day, should check it out if you can find it.

Sorry for the couple of "auto-corrected" words. Post was from my phone. Whodat.

Re: Just say NO to a Wr in the first round ...

I like Beckham but imo no way will Payton think about him after so many statements of locker room issues. Also 13th is too high for a man that hasn't shown he can handle any route tree. He could be Calvin Johnson but just as easily could be Cordelle Patterson
