this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; http://49ers.com/newsroom/DisplayNews.asp?newsid=2251 Signed with the niners. Great. How many more possible defensive coordinators will get picked off while we are keeping Peter Griffin on the sideline?...

Bye Bye Mike Singletary
Honestly I don\'t understand the big desire for Singletary as a DC anyways. Does he deserve that much credit for that defense? It seems like they have some pretty good instinctive linebackers. I don\'t really follow the Ravens, how much credit is he given for developing Lewis and the boys?
The thing I don\'t understand is that on the other hand you rarely hear Sam Mills brought up, and if you do it is like an afterthought. It kills me to see him standing on the Panthers sidelines. As great a field general and overachiever as he was in his playing days how can all of us Saints fans not want him back in the Black and Gold? If we do end up demoting Venturi (or reassigning - whatever) he would be my first choice to turn the reigns over to. |

Didn\'t say I didn\'t want Sam, but now Mike is gone. If Shepperd can be interviewed as an OC, Singletary can be interviewed as a DC IMO> But I would love to have Sam also.

Whodi -
I didn\'t really mean to direct that at you personally. I was just venting. I have just seen Singletary brought up in quite a few articles and posts as a really good option for a new DC for us. I just have been surprised that I have never heard as much (or I would think more) about Sam doing the same. |

Is Sam Mills the Panthers\' LB coach or their DC?
In either case, I don\'t think they\'re interested in letting him go. Sucks the 49er\'s nabbed Singletary. I think everyone except the Saints front office thought us interviewing him would be a good idea. Say what you want about Mike, but I\'d like my LB\'s learning from one of the best LB\'s in history anyday. At least we\'ve still got Venturi ... |

Sam Mills is (more likely than not, hope I\'m very wrong) dying of cancer... The Panthers organization, as well as the community, have embraced Mills in a way few people are anywhere... ... even if Sam wasn\'t ill, I don\'t think he would leave Carolina.. |
