Money and Balance

In todays NFL I think a team shouldn't tie up huge sums of money on one unit.
We have a lot of money tied up in our D-line and Secondary. The smart thing to do would be to spread the money among a member or two of each unit.

Looking at our team it seems the most underpaid position on the team is LB.
We have big money at D-line (Howard, Smith, Sullivan, Grant)
We have big money in the secondary, Tebuckey, McKenzie
But we don't have big money at LB

Logic dictates this team should now seek a big money stud at LB. And it doesn't matter which spot. Watson can play all three. I'd love to land a stud SLB. Next would be a stud MLB, and move Watson outside.

If I'm Loomis I seriously attempt to land a stud LB in free-agency and/or very early in the 1st round of the draft.

I now think obtaining a stud DT in free-agency or in the 1st round may not be the answer. From seasons past its apparent we aren't going to get two A-players. I think we go after an A-player LB and a B-player DT.

Talking about Tebucky Jones, he is vastly overrated as EVERYONE in the NFL knows. He needs to take a pay cut or get cut. We are paying to 100 times more than his market value and I feel Mel Mitchell can do his job for 2/10ths of Jones\' salary. At least Mitchell is physically imposing and he tackles like a beast. I don\'t know about his range but he does run a 4.5 40.

As for our defensive line, the only person being overpaid is Sullivan. He has a guarunteed contract so we really can\'t do anything with him. I definately don\'t think Darren Howard is overpaid because when healthy, he brings it. Look at his sack numbers, he\'s one of the vets and leaders of the team. Although with the emergence of Will Smith, Howard probably won\'t be back because franchising him will cost them at least 7 million. Not saying it isn\'t fair market value for him because he\'s worth it, but Smith is as good as a pass rusher as he is if not better. So will Howard probably leaving and if we cut Jones, we\'ll free up 10 million very fast. That money could be used on a safety like Darius and another impact player at a needed position.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

I\'d like to see us get smoot--i\'m not sure about his character-but he is a good player-if he will come.

I think that bell from pittsburgh is where we need to focus first..then look at other places, but i\'m not sure that lookinga t a fa qb like hasselback wouldn\'t be a good idea after getting bell, then draft rogers in the first.

Remember that Smoot was offered to us last year or the one before for our second round pick. Wow they must hate themselves for not taking the deal because it was a no-brainer. They didn\'t take him because of his \"character issues.\" But all this time in Washington he hasn\'t done anything wrong yet. Ironic.

As for Bell, I heard he is demanding Ray Lewis type money. I\'m a big fan of Bell when healthy. But for a guy who hasn\'t played more than 9 games a season for the last 2 years I believe, he\'s just not worth it. Maybe a heavy loaded incentive based contract based on time played and production, maybe. But I\'m pretty sure he\'s going to want a 10 mil plus signing bonus. I\'m sure we\'d rather pass on that.

I completely agree. I\'d much rather make a move on Adalius Thomas or Edge Hartwell.

Hey Danno - I agree completely. It\'s about value and balance. LB needs a boost. Then again, our RB position is underpaid for its performance, even with the bad ones. It\'s all relative - but I agree. LB needs to be the focus.
