New Orleans Saints, defensive lineman Cameron Jordan working on contract extension

1 Attachment(s)
New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton said the team has been in discussions with defensive lineman Cameron Jordan about a contract extension.

During the NFL owners meetings on Wednesday, Payton said Jordan was a key part of the team's future and General Manager Mickey Loomis and Jordan's representatives were working on a deal for the Saints' 2011 first-round pick.

Jordan enters 2015 in the last year of his rookie deal. The Saints picked up Jordan's fifth-year option, which will pay the 6-foot-4, 287-pounder a shade under $7 million next season.

I have mixed emotions about this. He hasn't been producing lately and I almost cringe at another long term deal for another average player. I wondered if he would be available for trade on draft day?

I was really hoping he would become a real force. Not sure what happened, he looked average at best most of the time.

Now's the time. After a mediocre year he shouldn't command JJ Watt-ish money.

Then again if the real Cam Jordan is the 2014 version, we'll overpay.

He was doing really well in 2013. Last year he was kind of a marginally good player. But most of us thought he was going to have a career year last year.

Its not a bad idea to lock him up for a couple more seasons, as long as they don't pay him more than he's worth (Gallette).

I hope the new deal has incentives and escalators, and as little guaranteed money as possible.

I think the real Cam is closer to what we saw in 2013 instead of the 2014 Cam. All in all, I feel like he is a much safer investment than Junior ever was.

He wasn't a force at all last season. If we play a 3-4 he's a little light but has perfect size inh a 4-3. I hope we don't mix both schemes with players that don't fit, that crap is getting old and has not been consistant from year to year.

The whole defense wasn't a force last season... I have no problem with extending his contract, we've all seen what he's capable of...

Certain units underachieve because certain players aren't doing their jobs

In 2013 Junior and Jordan both benefited from people like Akiem Hicks getting a massive push up the middle, it means that the QB cannot step up and fall right into the outside guys laps

2014 - Akiem Hicks was very underwhelming, I saw Jordan especially beat the tackle around the outside but the QB just stepped up into a totally clean pocket due to there being no push from the inside guys

Get that inside sorted and Jordan should be back to his best.

Agreed. Gotta believe an improved secondary will help
