After 2014, Brees should be traded
He finished with a 97.0 QB rating after all.
Do you know just how bad that is compared with previous Saints QBs and their best efforts in the black & gold??? Billy Kilmer 74.9 in 1969 Archie Manning 81.8 in 1980 Ken Stabler 71.8 in 1981 Dave Wilson 83.9 in 1984 Bobby Hebert 82.9 in 1987 and 1992 Wade Wilson 87.2 in 1994 Jim "Chris" Everett 87.0 in 1995 Mike Ditka's QB cluster 83.5 (Tolliver) in 1998 Aaron Brooks 88.8 in 2003 Yep, it's painfully obvious that we would be smart to dump Brees and go back to our normal QB carousel... |

Re: After 2014, Brees should be traded
Usually helps not to have an O line that's getting manhandled up the middle, too. That cuts down typically on boneheaded INTs.
Thanks but Drew gives us a better chance to win than ANYONE in the draft and a better chance to win than you would have with at least 27 of the other 31 current NFL starters. |

There is valid argument on both side of where you stand on the issue.
Trade him now while he has some now... don't trade him because he did this and did that. I don't know if many people have been paying attention but we are rebuilding. Sure we can ride this pony until he has nothing left but we need to worry about the next 10 years as well. If you check the roster there isn't anyone on it that will replace him. I don't see a right or wrong answer to the debate. |

If your rating is anywhere below 85 today, you pretty much suck.
When you throw as much as we do, you get yards which equates to higher QB ratings, but you also are prone to turn it over, and the rating system doesn't penalize near enough on turnovers. Drew used to be a lot more efficient, but now he gets a lot more garbage yards that skew his stats, it seems. He can still be elite at times, and there is currently no answer to replace him. So I'm not saying to get rid of him, I'm merely stating what I see. As for the offensive line, some people don't like to hear this but as it's been said before, Drew's contract has a lot to do with the patchwork O-line. That's why you at least entertain the idea of trading him, if you believe you've got an adequate QB to step in. Brees is not God, he is not the untouchable force that some want to think he is. Maybe he restuctures, maybe he takes a pay cut. Who knows. I doubt he is ever traded, but he won't be here forever. What will we do when his contract is up or he retires? Who knows who will be available when that time comes, so do we just let him walk, or do we get something back? We'll find out one day, but in the mean time don't be so dismissive of the idea. I am, however, critical of the "reports" that keep coming out about him being shopped. Of course the Saints will listen to offers, but there is nothing substantial going on to warrant a story. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Re: After 2014, Brees should be traded
If you are in doubt about Drew & CO read this from NFL.com
Which five new teams will make the playoffs in 2015? 1. New Orleans Saints: A stronger offensive line and a stronger running game mixed with another year of learning under defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. This team's mediocrity a year ago still feels so much like a fluke, and after some simple adjustments, the Saints are a prime candidate to reach the postseason again. Unless the Panthers make some serious strides, or a top quarterback steals the show in Tampa Bay, Drew Brees and Co. have us believing that a refreshed roster can make another run. Dan Hanzus, on the Around The NFL Podcast, thinks the Saints will go 12-4. |
