Billy Kilmer 74.9 in 1969
Archie Manning 81.8 in 1980
Ken Stabler 71.8 in 1981
Dave Wilson 83.9 in 1984
Bobby Hebert 82.9 in 1987 and 1992
Wade Wilson 87.2 in 1994
Jim "Chris" Everett 87.0 in 1995
Mike Ditka's QB cluster 83.5 (Tolliver) in 1998
Aaron Brooks 88.8 in 2003

Yep, it's painfully obvious that we would be smart to dump Brees and go back to our normal QB carousel...
In all fairness if you put some of those qb.'s behind Brees O-line and Brees behind theirs, Brees would be much, much, lower and theirs especially Archie's would be much higher.
Kilmer- a good qb. that in those years the run was dominate.
Archie- to me, hall of famer, never to even get a sniff in Canton. Any decent team might have won a Superbowl with him. Not being a homer here just looking a a truely talented qb. that wasted away on a sad team year in and year out.
Stabler- washed up when we got him.
Wilson- nothing flashy but solid for the O we ran.
Heber- trader that talked a better game than he played.
Everett- I really don't know what to think about him.
Ditkas cluster- was just that
Brooks- punk, makes me sick til today. Many times I would wish a blitzing lb. would decapatate his head from his body.

If your rating is anywhere below 85 today, you pretty much suck.

When you throw as much as we do, you get yards which equates to higher QB ratings, but you also are prone to turn it over, and the rating system doesn't penalize near enough on turnovers. Drew used to be a lot more efficient, but now he gets a lot more garbage yards that skew his stats, it seems. He can still be elite at times, and there is currently no answer to replace him. So I'm not saying to get rid of him, I'm merely stating what I see.

As for the offensive line, some people don't like to hear this but as it's been said before, Drew's contract has a lot to do with the patchwork O-line. That's why you at least entertain the idea of trading him, if you believe you've got an adequate QB to step in. Brees is not God, he is not the untouchable force that some want to think he is. Maybe he restuctures, maybe he takes a pay cut. Who knows. I doubt he is ever traded, but he won't be here forever. What will we do when his contract is up or he retires? Who knows who will be available when that time comes, so do we just let him walk, or do we get something back? We'll find out one day, but in the mean time don't be so dismissive of the idea.

I am, however, critical of the "reports" that keep coming out about him being shopped. Of course the Saints will listen to offers, but there is nothing substantial going on to warrant a story.
Garbage yards skew his stats? WHAAA, 4952 yards a lot of trash there He can be elite at times, everyone has a bad game

All the listed QB's played behind the OL's they played behind and will never play behind the ones Brees has and vice versa. The point is mute. Big difference between What is and What if!

Re: After 2014, Brees should be traded

If you don't like QB rating as a measuring stick, try:

1) wins
2) postseason wins
3) Superbowl wins

The whole reason I posted this is that all of the discussion of getting off the Brees bandwagon before all 4 wheels fall off, the axles are broken and the driver is MIA is ludicrous.

He's by ANY measure the best QB we have ever had and probably will be the best Saints QB of any of our lifetimes...

Re: After 2014, Brees should be traded

But the question remains... for how much longer before the wheels do come off.

Being smarter than that average bear and pull the plug before the wheels come off isn't a bad theory if the right QB comes along... Colts have faired well with that theory.
