this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Danno, I said no qb, and you immediately talk about the qb right out the gate. I thought it was moderately clever. 216 posts about Brooks, 1 post about 7 other positions. :P Oh well. I guess I could just ...

Gandy cannot move to RT, his run blocking skills aren\'t good enough. He\'s getting very slow very quickly. He may be revitalized by (1) keeping a back in on passing downs or using a TE to block (since we were frequently in one back sets and Duece isn\'t the best pass protector around), or (2) getting a LG who isn\'t as slow as he is.
I\'ll go out on a limb here and say that moving T-buck to SS would be a waste of the skills he does has. T-buck has good speed and is a decent tackler (now), but he doesn\'t think too quickly and is relatively stupid when he gets anywhere near the offensive backfield. I say keep him where he is. It is unlikely that he\'ll ever be a big play safety, but he\'s fine. I would say that S is a big need for us. The problem isn\'t that, it is that there are no good safeties available in FA. We\'ll have to get one through the draft or a trade. I agree with Danno that Mel Mitchell is still worth a shot. If Bellamy can stay as good as he was this year, which I doubt, then we\'re ok at S, but VERY thin and not very flashy. Here are some guys I think we should look at: OT - Matt Willig , Ryan Diem (Colts), Floyd Womak (Seahawks) OG - Joe Andruzzi (Pats) LB - Wali Rainer (Lions), Hannibal Navies (Packers), Julian Petersen (9ers), Will Whitherspoon (Panthers), Jeremiah Trotter (Eagles), Ed Hartwell (Ravens). I\'m currently of the view that we need two LBs and two OTs. I think Gandy may be salvageable for one more season, but he\'ll need some help. As for our LBs, Buckwoldt will only be a starter if he beefs up a lot, and IMO James Allen is not a starter in the NFL (he had a few good games, but he had as many bad ones). Also, these two played well for a handful of games; if we can get proven starters, I say go for it. Does anyone see a Safety that would be worth a third or fourth round pick in this year\'s draft? Honestly, I\'m just curious. |

can Thomas Davis play safety? I don\'t want small lb\'s...i want playmakers..ala derick johnson or at worst burnett.
what about the safety from auburn..rosegreen(?)- in a later round? |

Rosegreen is a bit undersized, but he hits hard, runs well and is always around the ball. A bit of a Ballhawk, just what we need. I believe he had 4 INT\'s in one game against Tennessee this years. He was also a vocal leader of a great Aburn D this year. I think he would be a great mid to late round pick.

Don\'t get too excited yet saintswhoadi ...we\'ll see in his workouts.
Thomas Davis is another version of Shaun Taylor, just not as good. But anything close to him and damn straight for me. Mel Mitchell can be a tackling machine and I think he would be great starting at SS for us. I believe if he got the oppurtunity he will turn a lot of heads in this league. I think our linebacker situation isn\'t as bad as people make it out to be. They played outstanding at the end of last year and remember these guys are still rookies. Give them more time to gel and I think we will be fine. Just change up our schemes to suit their athletic abilities. Lots of talent there it\'s just that we need to let them grow. I think they will be consistent next year, well at least better because more chemistry will be built. I think drafting a linebacker in the first round would be a mistake and Travis Johnson would be a great pick. Either a big DT with drive or a shutdown corner in case Mckenzie ask for that HUGE extension he wanted last year in GB. |

I like the idea of drafting Travis Johnson, but our lbs are smallish. Now if Watson and Bockwoldt strengthen in the off-season I will be more confident about the position. I agree with Kool though, no James Allen. No way, no how. So we still need someone for that position. I really wanna go with free agency there and the best choice is Hartwell. Coming fromt hat D, he can hopefully instill a nastiness in our players thatthey don\'t have, besides Charles Grant. I think we can look corner in the second round if we go safety or DT int he first. Now, almost no likelihood of this happenning, but what if sullivan gets off his fat ass this offseason and we don\'t need a DT. That would be HUGE to not have wasted those two picks and passed on others for this bum. That would allows us to change our draft strategy and address some other needs. Fat chance though, no pun intended.
Stop sleeping on Campbell papz. you\'ll see. :P |
