McCarthy to San Fran
http://www.nola.com/saints/t-p/index...0052144150.xmlMOBILE, ALA. -- Saints offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy has been hired for the same position with the San Francisco 49ers, an NFL source said Wednesday night.
McCarthy accepted an offer on a three-year contract from new 49ers coach Mike Nolan late Wednesday night. An announcement is expected to be made today. ... Also on Wednesday, the Saints reached an agreement in principle with Green Bay Packers assistant Johnny Roland for running backs coach. Roland, 61, is a 26-year coaching veteran who has coached running backs at Philadelphia, Chicago, the New York Jets, St. Louis, and Arizona. ... Haslett has had a plan in place for weeks to replace McCarthy and has worked discretely behind the scenes this week at the Senior Bowl to execute it. The top candidate to replace McCarthy is ex-Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Marc Trestman. Saints quarterbacks coach Mike Sheppard also is a potential candidate for the job. The rest of the Saints staff is expected to return intact. |

Congratulations San Francisco, I\'m sure you\'re already looking forward to the 2nd quarter, because you definitely won\'t score in the 1st.

McCarthy to San Fran
I\'ve been very hard on McCarthy, but I just want to say that I hope he does well in San Fran - not too well, but well. He installed a good offense here and has done some good things. Unfortunately, the overwhelming evidence is that he\'s wasn\'t equiped to manage that offense. Maybe a change of scenery will help.

On one hand, I\'m excited about the \"possibilites\".
On the other hand, I\'m really worried about our offense this year. More than any other player the QB is affected most by a new system. There\'s a lot of fans who want to pin most of our offensive problmes on McCarthy. Hmmmm... But, Brooks didn\'t do too shabby in McCarthy\'s scheme. Let\'s look at Brooks\' production while McCarthy was here. Brooks first year as starter: 26TDs, 22Ints, QB rating: 76.4 When is the last time you saw a first year QB throw 26 TDs? Brooks second year as starter: 27TDs and 15 Ints, QB rating: 80.1 Brooks improved in evey category. Brooks 3rd year as starter: 24 TDs and 8 Ints, QB rating: 88.8 Looks like Probowl numbers to me. Now, we can talk about Brooks fumbling, but that has nothing to do with McCarthy\'s offense. If McCarthy is so bad, Brooks must be one hell of a QB to put up the numbers in McCarthy\'s scheme. Deuce and Brooks put up monster stats every year, except this year, and McCarthy is a terrible coach. Horn hasn\'t done too bad either. What gives? |

Instead of looking at it as McCarthy must not be all bad because of the numbers Brooks put up. Think what might have happen if someone else was in McCarthy position. Brooks may just have been in the ProBowl with a whole lot better numbers.

Gator --
Was it the front office that got rid of McCarthy? Or, was it McCarthy who wanted out? Sounds like McCarthy wanted out to me?!?! Haslett wouldn\'t even give McCarthy permission to speak to another team for a while. If Haslett and managment wanted McCarthy gone, then maybe they are right. Heck, maybe they are wrong. But, one thing is for sure with me.. I\'ll still put more faith (most of the time) in someone who is acutally working in the business than some fan. Not that fans are always wrong. Just a little rule of thumb I follow. Now, Gator, was it McCarthy who wanted out or vice-versa? Do tell?b |

If a person spent as much time watching and reading about my marriage as I spend watching and reading about the Saints, no, I still wouldn\'t listen unless the person were close to me. However, that doesn\'t mean that that person isn\'t right about whatever. Many people spend countless hours per week evaluating the goings on of this team and many others. I think that qualifies anyone to give their assessment of what is happening or needs to be done. The bottomline is that on this forum there is no requirement that we have inside information, any insight or be right about any comments we make. We are all just spouting a very little bit of fact and a lot of opinion. Gumbo, you\'re big fan of using stats to make a point. However, you\'re posts are generally your opnion of what those stats mean based on your cumulative knowledge of the game. But that doesn\'t mean you didn\'t use insight to make your post. |
