Saints hold private workouts with Bryce Petty, Garrett Grayson, according to report

The New Orleans Saints conducted private workouts with quarterbacks Bryce Petty and Garrett Grayson, according to a report by Bleacher Report's Jason Cole on Thursday.

Petty, who set passing records as he led Baylor to back-to-back Big 12 championships, has tried to prove during workouts that he's more than the product of his college team's explosive system.

Grayson, from Colorado State, has a great arm and started attracting NFL attention by finishing his college career with a huge 2014 season.

Both quarterbacks are generally ranked among the next tier of quarterbacks available after first-rounders Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.

Most analysts expect Petty and Grayson to be drafted in the middle rounds.
Cole cited "multiple sources" in saying that the Saints "are looking to transition away from Drew Brees at some point in the next three to four years."

That's not exactly a revelation, as Brees is 36 years old. He's under contract

What i dont get is the talk is moving away from Brees over 3-4 years. If so why take a QB now. His deal will be up by the time Drew is done

Re: Saints hold private workouts with Bryce Petty, Garrett Grayson

you take one now to sit and learn.

SP requires a QB with a very high football IQ. then to have Drew as a mentor for 2 or more years is huge. no way does any college QB step in and start for this offense without a huge drop off. When he is ready take that option year or sign him long term at a cheap rate before he proves himself and it costs us big money. if it all works out

that is a packers move and it worked out well

only other option is go with a Vet free agent when drew is done. big bucks

or if the project proves himself then pull a colt move and trade the last few years for a boat load of picks to a contender.

Then you end up in the same street paying him big money after. If he isn't ready to take over in two years he is unlikey ti ever be ready. Its a waste of a high pick imo to sign a backup for the next 3 years. Them cheap years at QB are a massive superbowl window. You see it with the Colts snd Seahawks going all out while they have a rookie deal QB

I would prefer a QB in 2016 myself. Invest in a high pick 1st rounder. let him sit a year or two. then

from a business stand point

look for picks for Drew
let him walk after a short extension so he can pick his team and go the comp pick route.

as a fan
Drew plays his last game as a saint.

either way you have a couple years left on the rookie contract with a 5th year option in your back pocket.

I don't think the Saints will give Brees another huge contract and the 3-4 year thing is more like as soon as the new gunslinger is ready Brees will be gone. I remember Payton likeing another qb. ( I believe Miami's) but didn't pull the trigger. Sliding back in the draft to grab a qb. in the 2nd round would be wise. I like Petty over Grayson but thats just preference. Both seem good enough if we build a O-line with a great run game. I also think we will go after a traditional TE with good hands to make our run game explode. Payton will always get a new toy.

The QB he liked was Tampa's wait till after the draft and offer them a future pick for him. There is too much middle round talent to go for what a rated as average at best QBs in this draft. If we trade down then fine.

I like GG, anyone else? I think if you can get him in round 3 and let him sit for a few years, that can't hurt. What do you guys think?
