Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

1 Attachment(s)
Loomis and Peyton may have done it again, you make the call. The Saints had nine overall picks in the 2015 draft, and let's just say they touched on some needs while also picking practically and entire new defensive unit. After reading around, some draft "experts" rate the Saints draft as high as an "A", while other (like Pete Prisco) give the Saints a "C" for their overall daft score.

New Orleans Saints 2015 Draft Picks are:

Round 1, overall pick 13 - OT Andrus Peat from Stanford
Round 1, overall pick 31 - ILB Stephone Anthony from Clemson
Round 2, overall Pick 44 - OLB Hau’oli Kikaha from Washington
Round 3, overall pick 75 - QB Garrett Grayson from Colorado State
Round 3, overall pick 78 - CB P.J. Williams from Florida State
Round 5, overall pick 148 - OLB Davis Tull from UT-Chattanooga
Round 5, overall pick 154 - NT Tyeler Davison from Fresno State
Round 5, overall pick 167 - DB Damian Swann from Georgia
Round 7, overall pick 230 - RB/KR Marcus Murphy from Missouri

HOW DO YOU RATE OVERALL RATE THE SAINTS 2015 DRAFT?

DISCUSS BELOW!

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

I'm going to say B+

We've got some very good players that could come in and be immediate starters or at least role players for us.

The only reason its not an A for me is because at this moment in time, I have absolutely no trust in Brandon Coleman, Seantavius Jones and very little until proven otherwise in Nick Toon (he played decent late last season) so I would have liked to see us get a WR.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

I gave B, a lot of players that I think will contribute and will be on the team in future. I would've like for the saints to pick a OG and wide receiver. This was a vast improvement comparing to last year draft

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

Solid B+

Wanted to see DT/DE get more focus but outside of that the draft looks good. Can't judge anything until these guys get on the field.

If I rate based upon:
1) best player available at...
2) position of need for the Saints and
3) time until they player can get into a starting or backup role

Then I give the Saints an READ MY BLOG. :p:saintsfan:

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

I went B+ as well. I think they addressed most areas of need with solid prospects. I also like the character of most of our picks except maybe PJ Williams but I do agree his talent makes him great value at that selection and worth the gamble. We have a good veteran secondary core and it doesn't concern me.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

I said B, it is hard to tell, but potential is there

BTW- am I being a complete homer when I say that I feel like Beaseley will flop or be like a 4-5 sack guy per year?

went with a B, just don't like the Garrett pick and thought TE would of been a better choice in the 5th instead of another CB

I am more excited about our rookies day after day. I'm still learning what they bring to the table and I have to say that our members give us some incredible write ups and video.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

I'd have to say B. The only problem I have is that with their first pick they mostly likely don't have a first year starter in Peat. I know he will be good for the future or in case of injury but I still feel like they could have gone another way there. Drafting someone else or moving back for extra picks and a later OT to groom or fill in on reps.

Also was hoping they could get a big body TE late for some goal line reps.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

A-.

All the players fit our system, all have non-stop motors, leadership skills, fast and furious, and mostly on defense.

Can't grade players until year 3 or later, but we can grade the prospects and I give our prospects an A-minus.

There were no WTF's or square pegs for round holes anywhere.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

Peat is the reason i am at a C+. I need to see him handle speed in the NFL and improve to blocking at the second level to fit in our zone blocking scheme. he does that B+.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

We should be grading the draft from 4 years ago. This one is an Incomplete until they start putting on the pads and playing some football or cleared of any murder charges lol.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

Added this guy at WR. Not sure how the difference in competition will hurt his game but decent tape and the NFL draft prospect break down is on point. Hopefully if he gets some route running tips he can be worth some positive plays.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

Really love our picks with only question mark being the third fifth-round selection (DB Damian Swann); so for the picks "A-"

As far as the management of the draft, still would have like to have moved up and drafted OLB Vic Beasley and used the second round pick on a right tackle (i.e. Jake Fisher)...

And kidding around aside about Jeff Ireland taking a bathroom break while Sean Mickey moving back into the fifth - didn't understand the move, value nor need for that pick - "B-"

So Overall Grade is a "B+"

But, I think this draft grade can only go up and I suspect it will be a top five draft in Saints history...

Decent highlight tape, he's certainly good at attacking the ball during contested passes and seems to show good hands (obv. They wouldn't show any drops on a highlight tape) lol

Marques Colston came from a small program so it's certainly possible.

Gave them a B+, would've been an A had we drafted a WR. But I love what we did for the defense.

Defense will be much improved, OLine will be much much improved and that is a recipe for success.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

A tackle at 13 with playmakers at need positions on the board was a sissy move. C+.

An inside LB that could have been had in the second was a reach for a need. B.

A talented pass rusher with past injury concerns, who is a project at OLB, and is slated behind JR. Another reach. C.

An average college QB with an ugly delivery and injury concerns. Waste. F.

A talented CB with off the field issues. Value/reach. B-.

An OLB who would start over veterans and higher draft picks if given a fair shot which he won't be given. A for the pick. D for the future lack of playing time.

A NT who will make the roster. B.

A CB who cost two 6's and is headed to the practice squad at best. D.

A small RB that has some return skills. C+.

Should have drafted Collins in the 7th. No stones move. F.

No TE. No guard. F.

He wouldn't have signed; if he was drafted the CBA says if he didn't sign he could reenter the draft next year(He said he would not sign and wait for bigger money next year). If he went undrafted which he did, he can not reenter the draft, his only option is to get picked up now

He would not have sat out for a year. Worth the shot regardless. Murphy isn't going to make the team.

Didn't get the guys from my list. Basically I wanted LSU players. But gonna be B&G and hope for the best. Gotta say I hate that Kwon Alexander went to the Bucs. Him with Levontae David is tough fast LBs. I like the RB from Missouri. He could help us. I'm not big on the QB. Is he our future? I'm doubting that.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

I gave it an A. We drafted OL and LBs whats not to like? We got some DBs to and I guess those small men are a neccesary evil in football.

If Brees is the QB we all think he'll get production the WR position even if its the Janitor and a cheerleader out there running routes.

Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

I gave it a high B+ low A- If you wanted Shelton... like I did go get him... Cleveland got him... The Shelton Kikuhua, Anthony draft would have been a grand slam in my eyes... Also not sold on the Garrett Grayson thing as of yet... Hundley, Petty were still available. Gregory was on the board. You have a team of veterans to reign him in and no real headcases, but I understand you not wanting to take the risk... Solid players, Solid draft...

Well this draft may technically be over - but it isn't really over yet. UDFA is still happening, and Collins is still out there in the wings. Sign him, and I'll give a higher grade.

Some of the UDFA signings so far have been fantastic! Richardson in particular. But also Eulls. Barnes. Harris. Those are some great names.

Wish we could've landed Alani Fua, Taiwan Jones, and Wes Saxton.

But I can't get over the fact Collins is still out there.....
