METAIRIE, La. -- Rob Ryan demanded the blame for the New Orleans Saints' defensive collapse last season in his first interviews since the 2014 season.

Ryan, who spoke during pre-draft shows on WWL radio and the Saints' website last week, also detailed some of the specific problem areas that need to be fixed for a unit that fell from fourth in the NFL in yards allowed in 2013 to 31st in 2014.

"Look no further than me because, No. 1, obviously we never got the job done on defense, and that falls on me," Ryan said. "The rest of it, we didn’t tackle near as well as we did the year before. I think we missed the least amount of tackles in a season, and last year we missed the most. That can’t happen. Our third-down defense wasn’t near as good, we weren’t getting off the field. You go from second in the league on third-down defense to however high we were last year, it wasn’t very good.

"So we have a lot of work to do. And we’ve got the right people here. We’ve got the right coaches here. And we’re gonna make sure it gets done."
