NFL Truth & Rumors: Jan. 19, 2005

Now that the regular season is over, the NFL rumor mill is heating up. To keep you up to date, we've created a special edition of NFL Truth & Rumors.

Randy Moss' former teammate, Cris Carter, said he would not be surprised to see Moss traded. In fact, Carter took it a step further. "I'm going to go on record and say that Randy Moss has played his last game in Minnesota," Carter said.
-- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Reuben Droughns has asked the Broncos for permission to seek a trade and was given the OK. The NFL's trading season begins in early March, but a deal could be discussed before then. The Broncos likely would want a first- or second-round draft choice in return for Droughns, who broke out as a running back in 2004 to rush for 1,240 yards.

If Moss is traded, I just hope he doesn\'t end up in the NFC South. Preferably an AFC team will pick him up...

And I don\'t know what to think about Droughns. I just hate the visions of him running it in on us on their very 1st play from 50-60 yrds out. I knew rite then that we would get our a**es handed to us.

Moss is a fine WR, but he is a bit on the overrated side given his attitude.

Droughns on the other hand seems to me to be a solid back. I\'m unclear on why the Broncos would be trading him? Insights?

Barring a longshot candidate, such as Southern Cal offensive coordinator Norm Chow, others the Jets might seek include, Mike Sheppard, Saints quarterbacks coach; Jason Verduzco, Chiefs quarterbacks coach; and Bruce Arians, Steelers receivers coach.

You\'re kidding, right? The Jets want to make the guy responsible for the development of Aaron Brooks their offensive coordinator???

Droughns was a kind of Nick Goings case this season. He started out as the team\'s backup fullback and stepped in when it became apparent that Quentin Griffin, Garrison Hearst and Tatum Bell weren\'t the answer. I think the Broncs are probably trying to get something out of Droughns with the intention of developing Tatum Bell as their new starter. They really won\'t need to move Droughns back to fullback, either, as Mike Anderson should be back from that broken leg next season.

Sheesh. Tatum Bell, Quentin Griffin, Garrison Hearst, Mike Anderson, and Reuben Droughns all on the same team. Four 1,000 yd rushers and the other a rookie last season. Guess they really don\'t need Droughns.

But heck - knowing the Broncos - they\'ll move up to draft Ronnie Brown as well as sign Rudi Johnson, Travis Henry, Shaun Alexander, and Ricky Williams in the offseason. They\'ll still find time (and a draft pick) to steal the LB we want, too.

I had Droughns on my fantasy squad this year, so I payed attention when he played. I\'ll tell you this, and it might sound cliche, but it was the system. This guy isn\'t anything special. Promise you, when he goes to another team, you\'ll see. He is a class act, I\'m not dogging him as a person, just saying he\'s no superstar.

Totally agree, dberce. Droughns is not a star RB, and I agree he\'ll prove that elsewhere. Dirty O-line play or not, the Broncos system is a RB factory.

I can see why Clinton Portis was able to accomplish things in Washington. Portis is actually a good RB. Not nearly as good as he thinks he is ... but a pretty good one. Denver was able to (wisely) let him go for Champ Bailey knowing they could just plug another guy in there and rack up the yards. It\'s alot harder to lock down a good corner than a good RB, and Denver made out like mad in that trade.

The Broncos will probably be able to deal Droughns for a solid veteran defensive player, or maybe even a new WR (they\'re gonna need one soon). It\'s something to keep an eye on, as Droughns will probably go cheaper than Travis Henry in spite of Henry\'s bench riding all year.

they are looking to deal droughns because he wants more money, he is demanding to be paid like a top back and since denver feels like they can turn anyone into a top back they are willing to let him go

as far as moss last i heard baltimore was ready to make a big offer for him, which would be nice but (and don\'t take this as a racist remark because i\'m not but maybe moss is) i don\'t think moss would be willing to play for a white QB, espicially a crappy one like boller, i live near DC and there was an article last year about TO in which someone in the ravens organization leaked that one of the reasons TO was fighting the trade so hard was that he didn\'t want to play for a white QB again

as far as i\'m concerned moss and TO are just different sides of the same coin so it wouldn\'t surprise me if baltimore got screwed again

I live in Baltimore so I see all the Ravens games and Boller isn\'t as bad as people put him off to be. Every game I see his WR drop aleast 5-6 passes and no one seemd to remember that the first half of the year Ogden missed 4 games Heap missed 6 game Jamal Lewis miss 4 of the first 10 games and they had 2 other lineman miss some time. Moss would be a nice pick up for them. But Rusta you are right about T.O. As for the Saints they should make a strong case to get Hartwell this guy is awesome he\'s just been in Ray Lewis shadow.
