Exactly I started following the saints in 2004 because they were underdogs.

Living in the UK I personally think that New England has the biggest bandwagon fans

When ever anybody at work says I like NFL too, 80 percent of the time they say they are Patriot fans. Then promptly switch when they start playing poorly.

If being a bandwagon fan consists of having a pair of vice-grip pliars on your antenna, while your (ex)wife (#1) yells out the window, when the signal is only semi-snowy, because our tv came from Shreveport, when it wasnt showing the Cowboys!, and then sticking my head next to the am radio, fighting to hear as many words as you can to listen to a preseason game on the West Coast, being the ONLY Saints fan in Deep East Texas, where they arent even aware of a city called New Orleans, and planning special 6 hour drives (pre-Interstate 49) to see a team that never had a winning season, and bleeding black & gold... yep... I guess. Later being a season ticket holder in Houston.

This is the dumbest "study" I have ever heard. Obviously Emory University has some questionable academic abilities.

Best fans in NFL:
1. Us
2. Packers

Re: Study Says Saints Are No. 2 On List of "BandWagon" Fans

I fell in love with the city of New Orleans first. I never had a favorite NFL team growing up because my dad was in the Navy and we moved every 2-3 years. We ended up in Pensacola, FL in 1997 when I was 12. When I was around 16 I discovered New Orleans and fell in love. That was also around the time of Kyle Turley's incident which I thought was awesome. As a heavy metal fan I loved the band Down and when I saw them at the House of Blues around '02 I saw Kyle Turley hanging out at the show. My love of the New Orleans metal bands combined with Turley's outlaw vibe was pretty much all it took for young me to become a Saints fan. I'm probably rambling but I just felt like reminiscing.

Glad you asked. Rocky Balboa.

I have loved football and Rocky as far back as I can recall.
Rocky is simple. The underdog that had no chance persevered with courage and determination.

To pick a favorite team in the NFL as a child, however, was a tougher choice. Being from Alaska, I was force-fed Seattle games. Even as a kid I wondered why the local stations would play the Seahawks games every Sunday when other games were much more appealing. Being over 2000 road miles away from Seattle doesn't make me desire the Seahawks as a home team.

I was the youngest child of five. To pick a team I would have to understand why my siblings picked their favorite team.
One liked the Hulk and heard of a guy named Czonka that many called the Hulk so he chose the Dolphins as his favorite team.
Another watched a freak of nature named Lawrence Taylor play for the Giants in 1981 and decided that the Giants would be his team.

But I wanted more than just a player. I wanted to like a team.

One Saturday, after Looney Tunes of course, I watched a Football Follies special on t.v. It was an epiphany! I was tired of the Seahawks (I don't recall any kid in school wearing Seahawks gear by the way) and I wasn't about to jump on the Steelers or Cowboys bandwagons like the other kids. The team that had it's own spot on the Football Follies was the team that I would love like a family member from that day on.
