After Brodrick Bunkley release, Saints turn to John Jenkins, young players
Bunkley's departure means the presumed starter will become John Jenkins, the Saints' third-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft.
The move could also open up opportunities for rookie Tyeler Davison, a fifth-round pick, and second-year player Lawrence Virgil. Veteran interior tackle Kevin Williams could also be an option in some packages.
Financially, the Saints will save about $1.3 million in cap space by releasing Bunkley. The veteran would have counted $3.16 million against the cap. Now the Saints are only on the hook for $1.86 million in "dead money" in 2015 and another $1.61 million in 2016. The dead money reflects bonuses already paid to Bunkley that must be accounted for in the salary cap ledger.
