A WASTE OF MONEY? It's Byrd Or Bust For the Saints Going Forward
What a difference a year makes when it comes to hype and expectations on certain players.
For the New Orleans Saints it’s looking like the player that produced a lot of that hype and expectation is back to where he started a year ago. Safety Jarius Byrd is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list which is where he started at the Greenbriar in 2014. It's Byrd Or Bust For The Saints Going Forward |

Ugh the thought of him being injured again makes me sick. I hope he comes back healthy this year and helps our secondary.

Definitely don't have a good feeling about this. Pierre Warren is such a natural ballhawk though and Kenny Phillips has taken reps with the ones in training camp so if Byrd is a lost cause at least we have some decent guys who can take his place.

It would be nice they gave us an explanation as to what he's dealing with - his back or his knee

Re: A WASTE OF MONEY? It's Byrd Or Bust For the Saints Going Forward
Caught **** about criticism of this signing; and all I did was question the cap amount commitment vs Byrd's health history...
Bush/Vaccaro wasn't a bad tandem; but with a dearth of talent behind them with Pierre Warren, Vinnie Sunseri (who I freely admit has more upside than I originally gave him) and Sanford and a healthy Kenny Phillips; not to mention offseason speculation of moving Stanley Jean-Baptiste into a Kam Chancellor role or Damian Swann who many scouts felt he would make a fine strong safety - well, I could see Byrd expendable if it weren't for that albatross of a contract... |
Re: A WASTE OF MONEY? It's Byrd Or Bust For the Saints Going Forward
Start Sunseri and soon we'll forget the others.

Never sign an injured played for 56 million.

The talent is there "IF" he has the supporting cast to free range. Still not sold on KV being a complementary piece to max out what ever return we can get for Byrd. No the CB are looking much better. but that is still needs to be seen at game time.
That contract???? I was never excited about. Talk about a huge "BUT" right out of the gate. Then to lug that huge BUT around for length of the deal. dam |

I'm convinced that Loomis was drunk off his ass or incredibly high for most of 2014. That draft was an abomination and the Byrd and Galette contracts were crazy.

Re: A WASTE OF MONEY? It's Byrd Or Bust For the Saints Going Forward
Too early to tell. He didn't really cost us much at all last year (3.5 mill) and won't cost us much this year (5 mill). Its next year that the mega cap hits occur.
And I'd heard from Loomis's own mouth that they always have a bit of protection built into his contracts so its never as bad as it looks on the contract sites. He said they usually have several options if a high dollar player doesn't work out. |
