Props to the Patriots

The coaching staff of the Pats are terrific. From top to bottom, the coaching staff did a great job. And have for quite some time. In yesterday's super bowl, the Pats offense didn't play very well in the 1st half. They commited a lot of false start penalties, couldn't run the ball, and let the Philly's blitz affect their passing game. But, towards the end of the second quarter, Weis made some adjustments. To counter Philly's aggressive blitz packages, the Pats offense went to running screens, and going with a long snap count so Philly's defense would tip their hand. Once Philly showed who was going to blitz, Brady would point that guy out and someone on the Patriots would make sure he blocked that guy. There's nothing complicated about that. You just need to get up to the line of scrimmage quick enough and go with a long snap count. All of that really slowed Philly's blitz down, and, when that happend, it allowed Brady enough time to survey the field and complete some passes. By the way, let's give the Pats receivers some credit. These guys are solid across the board. They might not be Randy Moss or Terrell Owens, but they are very good. On defense, those 4 linebackers are the heart and soul of that team. And the other guys on the D-line a great also. The CBs aren't great but they recieve so much help from the linebackers in coverage, and the Pats great pass rush just makes their job that much easier. And on special team, the Pats play a lot of starters which makes them one of the best in the league. Adam Veanturi is a great kicker also. It's going to be interesting to see if they can keep the dynasty going without their offensive and defensive coordinators... [Edited on 7/2/2005 by GumboBC] |
