Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
1 Attachment(s)
The Titans cut veteran wide receiver Hakeem Nicks over the weekend, which didn’t do much to reverse the perception that he’s a fading player that formed over his last few seasons with the Giants and Colts.
Nicks may not be out of chances to change that perception, however. According to multiple reports, Nicks is working out for the Saints on Tuesday. The Saints’ interest in adding a receiver isn’t a surprise. The team only has four of them on their 53-man roster after releasing several wideouts in last week’s cuts and Marques Colston is the only receiver on the roster with more than one year of NFL experience. http://imgick.nola.com/home/nola-med...707-mmmain.jpg Nicks would give them some more experience, but his last three years call into question what else they might get by bringing him onboard. Drew Brees is the type of quarterback that can make the receivers around him look good, but so is Andrew Luck and Nicks didn’t show much benefit from playing with him last season. Re: Report: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
So, Coleman is the talk of training camp and gets cut. Then, we bring in an aging guy who doesn't have it anymore? I'd rather Lance Moore. Also still trying to figure out why we let Pierre Warren go.

Re: Report: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
cause Pierre Warren is not a good player...

Colston, Coleman, Cooks and Snead. That's what we currently have. If Hicks can help, sign him up.

Snead and Cooks, not confident in their durability, Colston either. Couple of 1000 yd seasons, still young...devil advocate here but this might be a good thing big picture.

Receiver Hakeem Nicks working out for New Orleans Saints, according to source
Who would get released to make room for him if the Saints want to sign him?
Veteran receiver Hakeem Nicks was working out for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, just three days after he was released by the Tennessee Titans, a league source told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune. Receiver Hakeem Nicks working out for New Orleans Saints, according to source | NOLA.com |

Keep kicking the tires but I don't think we'll sign him......We need a reliable receiver.
Too bad we're trying to find him on the waiver wire. |
Re: Report: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
Hicks is garbage... He did nothing with the Colts and got cut by the Titans...

could do worse but could do a whole lot better

Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
Is everyone saying Hicks is done at 27?

ouch:
and Marques Colston is the only receiver on the roster with more than one year of NFL experience. oh, half of Cooks' experience was on IR |
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
we have as many RB's as WR and TE combined
as to who gets cut, my guess is Richardson or Barnes, temporarily anyway |
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
bigger question is why?

We have Colston, Cooks & outside of that, who else on the roster is as proven as Hicks? At one time this guy was a serious baller with the Giants & arguably their #1 WR. While he has had a few injuries, Hakeem is only 27. I still say that there is tread left on those Michelin's. I think he would be a great mentor to our man Willie Snead & Cooks. Nicks would certainly be an upgrade over Toon. As for his declined production with the Colts/Titans .. have you seen the current roster for those two teams at the WR spot? Hilton, Moncrief, Green-Beckham, Wright, Douglas etc. Most of those guys are good to above average. I think for some of the reasons stated above, this is why we are kicking the tires ;). |
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
I hope the Saints sign him. The dude was terrific his first couple of seasons. How does a youngster lose that ability? Injury? Immaturity?
I am at least glad that the Saints are checking him out. |

Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
Nicks does appear to be in a death spiral, there is younger, more promising talent we should be signing, at least to the practice squad...
Dezmin Lewis comes to mind... |
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
If he can help, sign him. He's probably cheap.
They cut what they thought were players that would not help. If he can get open, catch the ball, and hang on to the ball, then he can help. I will work backwards: If he can't hang on to the ball, it doesn't matter if he can catch. If he can't catch, it doesn't matter that he can get open. If he can't get open, none of it matters. If they are working him out then they recognize receiving deficiencies in our current group. If they think he can fit a need I will trust their judgment. If he doesn't work out, then next man up. |
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
I've had enough trouble saying Hakeem Nicks instead of Akiem Hicks, and Akiem Hicks instead of Hakeem Nicks.
Put 'em on the same team? The screams of terror are already echoing in every corner of my mind. But I suppose he would be a better option than having an empty seat as our 5th WR. |
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
I think it would be beneficial. Brees will have him looking like his old self when he had 1,000 yards and 11 TD's. He can bounce back.
|
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
It is Wed and there are no other talks, so it will be him or RJ Harris or S Jones. You can't go into a game with 4 WR, 2 TE's and 1 FB.
Maybe Murphy at wideout? Strief at his old position of tackle-eligible in short yardage? |
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
I am all for seeing what he can do. He has the ability maybe he just needs the right coach and QB
|
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
Coleman made the team.

Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
I really don't get nor like the Warren cut. I just start to forget about it until someone mentions him and I start my downward spiral of disappointment and anger again. Not saying he is an amazing safety, but damn, that dude made plays and has potiental to be a pro-bowler IMO. I just don't get it....locker room problems maybe? Or maybe his FU's overshadowed his good plays?
|
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
Bree's accuracy resurrects Hicks and he plays in the Pro Bowl, 6 touchdowns and 1100 yards receiving.
|
Re: Hakeem Nicks working out for Saints
And we may not need someone like Nicks if we'd taken a viable WR in the 6th last year instead of OT Rooks who we cut.
And the Chief just cut. After a heart attack on the field. Ex-Chiefs tackle Rooks had a heart attack; team still helping him |
