More on the imminent decline of Brees

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Well, it is too bad that Jimmy's gone as he was the only person able to catch a pass in the greater New Orleans metropolitan area... That was sarcasm for you more literal minded folk BTW....

Re: More on the imminent decline of Brees

People are constantly saying that losing Jimmy will cause him to go backwards in pass game. I think it will improve it. I'm not saying I don't miss Jimmy, he was an animal when healthy. However, more and more, I saw Drew try to force feed Jimmy, sometimes when he was basically in triple coverage. I think not having him, will allow him stay in the flow of spreading the ball, keeping the secondary on their feet.

Exactly. I have been preaching the same sermon for months.

By the way, welcome to the site if I haven't expressed those feelings previously.

Edit: I see you have been around since May 2013. Don't be such a stranger.

Jimmy's drops were a problem. We should improve dramatically with him in Seattle.

Drew has shown a knack for finding the open man for 9 freaking years now. Losing Jimmy Graham isn't going to hurt us one freaking bit.

Drew Brees was fifth in QBR last season at 73.3, a figure higher than his composite 69.6 score from 2006 through 2013. So all's well, right? Not exactly. Consensus around the league is that Brees has slipped. "He doesn't throw as well," one offensive coordinator says. "His lower body is not as good. He's been nicked up a little bit." Some noticed a certain level of panic creeping into Brees' game, but that seems understandable given how far the New Orleans defense has fallen. One number to watch is interceptions: Brees had 17 last year, third most in the league, thanks in part to the pressure put on him by a D that ranked 32nd in EPA. With the loss of TE Jimmy Graham, the defense can't afford to languish (draft picks 31 and 44 went to linebackers), and the running game has to improve (pressure's on, Mark Ingram and C.J. Spiller). -- Mike Sando
Same could be said for Manning and Brady. It comes with age. Brady won the Super Bowl last year.
OUr offensive line last year sure as hell didn't help his interception ration either.
Yea, He is getting older and not the Brees of old but he is still better than 25 other starting QBs around the league.
Any team a QB away from contending would salivate to have him on their team.

It really is amazing that so many of these hack reporters making a living writing about what they've heard from other writers as if it were gospel. This guy sounds like he didn't watch a single Saints game last year.

Probably couldn't tell you the name of one of our O lineman without looking at a roster.

Good stuff. I agree completely.

Seattle is suffering without Unger (and Anthony) and Drew has another Big fella to throw to in Coleman.

Get these kids coached up on defense and this team will be better than last years group.

I agree...I mean how many rookies started sunday? I think Arizona is going to go deep in the playoffs, if without any injuries. We didn't do bad for what we had on the field, and against the opponent we had, and being AWAY.

It is, all you have to do is take stats, remove the context, and Bam you can write a story...wait there are a lot of people on this board who do exactly the same thing. There are literally people on this board yelling we did not run enough on Sunday.
