Just gonna throw this out there... I was super critical of signing Spiller to be that Bush/Sproles type of back because it's been so obvious that defenses have figured out our use of the screen pass. Then week one rolls around and we throw tons of screen passes and check downs to RB's to very little success. Spiller isn't gonna be Sproles from 2011... The league has figured us out.

This is one of the reasons why I feel Payton has reached his peak, as a coach, with this team. He keeps doing the same thing & expecting different results, which is the definition of insanity. I'm not saying he is insane but ever since he was suspended for that year he has not been the same coach. The teams productivity has gone down. We haven't won the division since 2011? This in it's self is a statement of how far we have sunk even with Drew. It's time to start a new chapter.

Our screen passes were at their most effective when we had a downfield passing game that was effective. Everyone was so scared of our deep game they came balls out in pass rush to get there and it opened up our screens. Our screens don't open up anything when we don't have a run game that needs respect and our downfield passing is no threat either.

Bottom line we ran into a top 5 defense yesterday with a very good secondary. Our receivers didn't get any separation, our running backs couldn't threaten any respectable runs and we got stuck in an underneath offense that the Cards could control.

But I do think Spiller helps this team when healthy. I think we are athletic enough in our run blocking to make more use of outside runs and I think Spiller will fill underneath check downs with more escape-ability for bigger plays than Ingram or Robinson provide in that area. He's a guy who can make LBers miss or fake them out of the play.

We need to work on our intermediate to deep passing game and take shots more often. I was surprised at the lack of attacking the seam with Hill or Colston.

Cue Coach Cliche! " We have to stay focused, keep improving. It's a marathon not a sprint." "The sky is up." "It is what it is except when it isn't" "You wouldn't know a good pass rush if you saw one." "We have to correct the mistakes." "We'll remain positive." Ect, ect, ect, ect!

All game plans look bad when skill position players can't win individual matchups. Patrick Peterson bottled up Cooks except a couple decent plays and no one got any separation all day. We need more touches for Ingram and Robinson in my opinion.

Payton has run his course?
Fire Sean Payton?
Has anyone ever heard of rebuilding? I'm sure we tried to avoid it but no doubt we are right in the middle of it.

I don't agree with that. There is a big difference between a guy like Sproles/spiller coming out of the backfield over Ingram. Spiller coming in will create match-up problems for the D again, we need him back and healthy as much as we need Lewis.

You missed my point that teams completely figured out our use of Sproles. It doesn't matter if it's Ingram or Spiller... Teams have figured us out. Sean Payton has become one of the most predictable play callers in the league.

It all depends on if Payton turn this grab bag of talent into a team. If we can make a run in the second half of the season my faith will be restored in him.

If it turns into a twenty car pile up like last year it's time to move on.
