this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I thought the Saints drafted Brandon Cooks as a deep threat. But in 4 games he's only had 3 receptions over 10 yards....

Re: Standout stats
I'm a little disappointed with his perfomances. Watching how Morris Claiborne took him out of the game was very worrisome. And that's not shutdown corner by any means.

Re: Standout stats
We don't have any downfield passing game. With Brees' shoulder we are relegated to 3-15 yard throws. We do need to get Cooks on those shallow crossing rubs where he can make yac.

Brees can throw a deep ball still. The 30 yd completion to Coleman was a great back shoulder throw that had some zip on it. We just don't call the plays to get it down field and when we do we can't get enough protection. |

When he has to make a tight throw downfield, he won't even attempt it because it's gonna hang up too long. Aside from velocity issues I don't know how much further he can really get the ball out there, beyond 30 yards. I also didn't think the protection was as horrible as people are saying it was. He got sacked on a couple of occasions where he held the ball forever. That's been a criticism I've had of him the last couple years. He doesn't get rid of it quickly like he used to. And if no one is open, he needs to just throw it away. McCown did a very good job a couple weeks ago of getting out of the pocket. Instead of just standing there and waiting for something to happen, sometimes you need to buy some time for yourself and get out of the pocket. Drew rarely does that anymore. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
