Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
I almost feel sorry for Colston. The dude does nothing but work his a#$ off, never complains but his skills have diminished. He didn't even take himself out of the game after he injured his arm. He is a soldier, warrior but unfortunately his time is up.

Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
If Payton is still here next year, anyone wishing for an lsu receiver is just doing that..wishing. this coaching staff has shown zero desire to get anyone from there.

Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
I mean in terms of the newer guys mentioned. Fitz and Colston, the veterans, are slots.

Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
Whenever I see that smug look in Payton's eyes when discussing a position with a little known player like center last or WR this year I begin to cringe. We don't develop players well enough to suit me.

Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
Good receiver. Wrong fit. We need a Megatron style WR. Should have man'ed up and got a more industrial style true #1. The results are obvious, too small, gets mauled at the line and speed is a non factor at that point. Also using him on returns, something he has never been good at but once again, Payton puts things on players that do not fit and once again, fail. These small receivers play a role. They will never be a #1. It was tried with Moore. As good as he was he is not that guy and neither is Cooks. Get a real #1 and get a real DT that can at least, make the QB move a few feet.

Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
The saints drafted one WR since Colston that made an impact. we traded him away.
Cook is a ????? not really sure what kind of WR he is to be honest. The saints WR corp is an enigma wrapped inside a riddle. Now Colston goes down? Saints need and have needed to address the WR position in the draft for years. Yet we always play that UDFA gem game to fill the roster. So till Cooks get a supporting cast I can not judge the guy. |

Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
I have no issue with Cooks at all. He has not dropped a lot of balls, he runs precise routes, he is a good person who conducts himself well. It's not his fault defense are allowed to pretty much ignore every other piece of our offense and roll coverage to him. It's not his fault that Drew can't take the top off a defense anymore on a deep ball unless it's a blown coverage. And it's not his fault we run the same predictable end around to him that any defense can identify in seconds.
It's the same issue St Louis had with Tavon Austin. Nothing else to defend so they can easily take him out of the game. Look at how Austin is emerging this year as that team now has more weapons to defend. If we had a legitimate #1 and Jimmy Graham still I bet we would be talking about what a crazy weapon Cooks is. Only downside to that is it would be at the expense of our o-line and defense, not that we are stellar there either but we have drafted some potential nice long term pieces. |

Re: Brandin Cooks Hype
Agree. Cooks is good in his own right.
They are doubling him and singles everywhere else can't get open. O-line doesn't even allow Drew to look-off and come back to him. I spew about Brees dinking and dunking but that's all he really has time for anymore. His progressions are dead after two... Even then he's getting pressure up the middle. Drew's a pocket passer. He's having to look at Stief's guy 1st, even before he sets his feet. It's just bad. Cooks just has no relief to make opponents play him honest. |
