Interesting player for us...
AP reports New York Jets veteran MLB Sam Cowart, who lost his starting job to rookie MLB Jonathan Vilma after suffering a sprained left knee in Week 2, has asked the team to trade or release him. Cowart has three years left on his contract. He has a base salary of $1.5 million in 2005 with a $500,000 roster bonus due next month. His cap number is $2.9 million. He provides the Jets with quality depth and the flexibility to switch from a 4-3 to 3-4 alignment.
If anyone has ever watched Cowart play, you'd know he's a tackling machine. I don't believe he's over 30 and if he can stay healthy, which is the only concern, he would be a very good and cheap investment to bring in to compete with Watson or Allen. He's an injury-prone ProBowl caliber player who would probably benefit from coming back down south. |
