Re: Dennis Allen
Dennis Allen is a good coach. People let his failure as a head coach cloud his achievements. Not all coachs are meant to be head coachs.
Just a few stats from his coaching time here: As a DL assistant we had a total of 70 sacks - 33 forced fumbles As the DB coach 174 pass deflections - 41 int - 5 defensive td IMO DA will be fine. Its easy to get your opinion clouded by his stint in Oakland. Which isn't really fair. How many coach's failed in Oakland when Al Davis was in his end years? Denver's D was SOLID when he was the DC which is why Oakland wanted him. Now with all that said, temper expectations for the rest of this year. He is working with a hodge podge of players. I'm hopeful he does a decent job this year so we can then weed out some bad apples and get another good draft. We have some very good players and are a few pieces from being pretty good. We just need the right DC to lead the pack. |
Re: Dennis Allen
When we brought Rob in we had more pieces for a 4-3. Now he's on his way out and we have pieces for a 3-4. We are in shambles on that side of the ball. Even veterans are unmotivated and pissed off at this disaster that has been built. Pick out the handful of most mature and prideful guys and start over with the reset.

Re: Dennis Allen
Nothing is gonna change. Rr firing was more about sending a message and showing they are willing to do SOMETHING. I'd Allen or even Payton could have done a better job they would have done it wayyy before this.

Re: Dennis Allen
I like changing it now because obviously its not working and going forward you know you aren't going to keep going to keep this status quo.
Change it now let someone else start changing it up... Allen isn't here to fix it over night. He is here to start implementing the plan for next year and years to come lets hope. I kept waiting for this new hybrid of a D they were going to implement and looks like there were doing so with the Safeties they brought in. Sort of like the 'box coverage' that Seattle deploys. Which is what I think is the way to go with our team and get some rushers but same product year in and year out. |

Re: Dennis Allen
god only knows what we have at the second level to be honest. Thinking about he is the only one that knows at the first either. Is there a third? if so i would say ask god one more time.

Re: Dennis Allen
This was a no brainer. Give DA a chance to see what he can do with the reins. He can implement his schemes in the next two weeks and tweak them over the next six games. Allen is familiar with the personnel he has to work with and has the opportunity to prove he should have the job. Who knows? He might take some of the pressure off of Vitt if he's successful.
Allen is a secondary coach and if I recall correctly Payton likes to hire those guys as defensive coordinators. The real question is do we really want to move to a 3-4? Because I think Allen is a 4-3 coach primarily. Vitt is a 4-3 coach too. If they make it through the offseason cuts I guess we'll be running a 4-3. Here's the head scratcher for me.......what defense will we run and what defense will we draft for next year? I would love to see a break down of the players talent and what system they are projected to play in. Edit: The Saints love to put a square peg in a round hole. |
