Officiating

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I agree. I am sick of endless flags for garbage calls. Even in a bye week where I have no horse in the race it was tough to watch. That call on Culliver for unnecessary roughness calling back his pick ...

Give coachs 2 penalty challenges. Make it a purple flag. Same rules apply as the red flag. At least then when the refs try to ruin a game, teams have a chance.

Refereeing football is a thankless job.

On the other hand rugby referees are the sole judge of fact and law and are treated with respect and only addressed as sir.

Re: Officiating

Just wondering how many refs been influenced to lean toward throwing the flags on teams or making horrendous calls because of gambling? I mean, look at the tuck rule, it took decades before they decide to get rid. Everyone including the patriots knew that was a fumble. Instead the rule was more emphasis on making the call for future. Now it's the Dez Bryant catch, they trying to emphasis that now but they looking more like idiots. If they start losing credibility, soon people going to turn away from the NFL and start watching other sports. I personally, trying to influence my son toward baseball. 1. The NFL pay is worst than all other sports. 2. The players avg 5 yrs longevity. 3. Chances of permanent injury or higher. ALL OF THIS AND REFS MAKE BAD CALLS that can get players and coaches fired.

Probably all the time, gambling is a very rich business and the ones who collect don't play around. Especially if you are in New Jersey/New York.

Re: Officiating

IF the games are ever "fixed" it will be by the ref's. With all the millions the players get the big "Fantasy Gambling" syndicates would chose the next thing. The officials! In the Atlanta game there were two challenges on the new "Catch Rule" both were called with opposite outcomes. One was a catch the other wasn't. After all ONE NBA ref admitted he was "dirty."

Re: Officiating

If anyone had a thought that the games are "fixed" didn't watch the game last night. Patriots got royally hosed and we all know they are THE most favored team in the NFL.

Re: Officiating

They won't all be "fixed" as to outcome. They'll be "fixed " for statistics. Take a catch away here, A TD pass there. Easy and "invisible" all those "judgement calls" Remember the ref staring directly at the Sea Hawk batting the ball out of the back of the end zone? Granted that one would have effected the outcome in favor of the winless Lions.

New England was a -7.5 point favorite.
