It would really come down to the Saints front office and what happens in Free Agency. If the FO makes a go for say Trevathian or another mid tier LB, I could see them passing on Jaylon.

However if someone told me that we could have drafted Captain America (Luke Kuechly) or Bobby Wagner but we would have to sit him for a season, I'd wouldn't even care. I think this guy (Jaylon Smith) will become an impact player at the next level.

I don't like to judge Senior Bowls for how a player does. How they do in conference games is a bigger indication of how they will succeed or not.

I also learn something new. A DT isn't exactly all about getting to the qb but clogging holes and stopping the run. Yet I saw RBs running like crazy against Baylor which is why I'm not high on someone like Billings.

Maybe I did my evaluations wrong and were looking for DTs who could get to the qb and disrupt plays as opposed to what a DT is really supposed to do.

I agree with you. in a 34 or a 43 you need that space eater at NT.

Play at NT will make or break a DL. The saints have DT but no NT that requires respect much less a double team. The saints have a bunch of rotational player that can work. But the sum of the parts does not equal a starter. Kevin Williams still has it but he can no longer be a full time starter. The dudes teeth are starting to leave groves in the turf.

I see quality DT/DE deep and often in the draft

I have a hard time judging NT from spread football governed conferences and a rule of thumb is most do not pan out. Like OL they are fundamentally a mess and need a ton of work on the basics.

Sacks are over rated glamor points in the trenches and I see them as icing on the cake for DL. Almost every sack is a result of units play to allow it to happen.

But first and for most defense against running game has to well coached at this point in players development. They must have gap integrity.

Still hope the saints reach out and talk to my favorite bad boy of the draft who will be a late or by all odds be a UDFA because he was kicked off the team. For reasons I can respect. He did not start the fight, his friends did, according to reports. When enough was enough he put an end to it. This is NT mentality not the soft fluffy cuddly kitty stuff you get out of John Jenkins. That was my knock on him when we drafted him. One year of attitude does not cut it. either you are nasty or your a care bear. So here is one of my steals in the 2016 draft

Josh Tupou, NT, Colorado 6030 325 5.08

Two year starter with no games missed. Loves doing the dirty work in the trenches. Get this kid in and see what you got. He is a space eater with pride and attitude. May not be an all pro but I would not be surprised to see him have a long and productive career in the NFL. At least talk to the kid. I got a long list of swing and misses on these types but I do get one or two every other year.

The problem picking a NT for the Saints is they get them to drop weight for they can play faster instead of letting them put weight on to clog those holes and take on double teams constantly. Unless we get a true space eater that does just the down and dirty trench work our middle will still be exposed and give 5 yards a play on run downs. We need a relentless and heavy 3 down NT and things will get better. We need a stud up front.

The great thing about the Senior Bowl(s) is both the practices during the week and the game itself has a higher concentration of talent at all positions...

I don't get why Vernon Butler, Louisiana Tech, is overlooked as a Nose Tackle which is his natural position...

Now Butler could be there when we select in Round 2 (chances are slim); that's why I'd really like to sign Jets free agent NT Damon Harrison allowing more freedom in the draft...

lets add some speed! My take? A one-trick pony? But one trick is pretty neat. reportedly run a 4.29-second 40-yard dash. A couple of inches taller than Ted Ginn but better hands. Imagine Cook having this kind of speed taking the top off a defense for him. I think there is enough upside in the kid to get Henderson or Meachem type of numbers out of him without wasting a first round pick. As a 4th/5th WR he is a pretty neat toy

5 - 128 - Kolby Listenbee WR TCU 6013 183 4.36

Bottom Line
Intriguing draft prospect with good height, hands and ball skills and the second gear to threaten defenses deep. Listenbee won't help much as a run blocker and he's not sudden enough to be a consistent worker from the slot, but winning deep can produce touchdowns which will get him into a camp.

The evaluator said any player that approaches 10 seconds in the 100 meters is worth a long look by the NFL. Listenbee clocked a 10.03 at the Big 12 championships earlier this year. Not only that, but the 6-foot-1, 183-pound senior has reportedly run a 4.29-second 40-yard dash.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports that "several teams" believe Southern Utah CB LeShaun Sims will be a better NFL player than heralded teammate S Miles Killebrew.
"The belief is Sims, who looked terrific at Shrine practice on Monday, is a plug and play cornerback while Killebrew, who’ll be at the Senior Bowl next week, is more a product of size and speed," Pauline wrote. Former LSU junior CB Rashard Robinson declared for the 2016 NFL Draft.
"After much prayer thought & consideration over the past months and deliberation with my family I have decided to declare for the 2016 NFL Draft," Robinson posted on Facebook. We're extremely interested to see how Robinson's situation plays out. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound cornerback hasn't played since 2013, when he was a freshman. That year, he played in 12 games, holding Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans to four catches and 51 yards in his first career start. Robinson was suspended indefinitely in 2014 after violating team rules and was unable to gain reinstatement by head coach Les Miles prior to this season. It's a bit surprising that he didn't transfer to get back on the field, but the skill and length are both NFL caliber.
