Got a hunch Jeff Ireland and company will select one of the Clemson studs.

Dodd, Lawson, Kearse or Alexander.

We already have Stephone :bng:.

Okay, probably getting a little ahead, but with having Fairley under contract soon (e.g. initially I had Malik Jackson signing in mind)...

The flexibility of the signing makes the draft I had in mind still viable and at the end of the day, we roll with Coach Payton and offense...

Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville: There aren't many one-gap pass-rush tackles in the draft, but Rankins is one of them, and he's being projected as a top 12-15 pick. His combine performance was excellent, which only improved his stock. However, his lack of bulk and inconsistent ability to shed better blockers inside make him a liability as an every-down player. Good coaching should help him improve in this area, and maybe he will become a constant threat to the quarterback. But he's really a better value in the late-first/early second round than he is in the top half of Round 1.

A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama: It was a tough ask for a college lineman to move Robinson off the ball, and he had enough athleticism to make plays against lesser competition. But he plays too upright, which will make life difficult for him when he meets veteran NFL offensive linemen with experience staying low and playing with leverage. Will he be a strong rotational player who can eat up space and challenge linemen? Yes. Will he be the sort of difference-maker (especially rushing the pass) expected by teams and fans if picked in the top 15 overall? Not unless he plays lower and has his motor running hot on every play.
Overrated?

I'm really starting to think none of the DT's in this draft are top 20 prospects. If the Nick Fairley signing is indeed imminent and doesn't fall through then I don't want want to reach on any DT at 12. There will be way too many available in the second round. Gotta snag an every down DE to pair with Jordan in the first round... Or Treadwell.

On a similar note, I'm starting to think that none of the OG's in the draft are immediate starters. The top 3 guards according to Walter Football all struggle with pass protection, and we all know that for Brees, pass protection up the middle is actually more essential than protection from the LT position.

well if that's the case, draft a tweener OT and slide him at guard. Worked with Evans and Nicks so I'm fine with trying it again

Yeah both Alexander from LSU and the guy from Kansas played OT in college but are projected as guards in the nfl. I hope we can strike magic again with one of the top 3 prospects.

I really like two in this draft as projects

PHYSICAL SCALE
Le'Raven Clark is a 10
Willie Beavers 7

Pro ready SCALE
Willie Beavers 7
Le'Raven Clark is a 4

R2 - Le'Raven Clark has everything you are looking for in a OT/OG physically. Coming from a spread offense his skill sets screams round 4/5. This kid needs some serious coaching but if you want a something pretty you could not ask for more. Huge Boom-or-Bust in round 2. Looks pretty all dressed up but stripped down there are some issues. Round 4 or better yet 5, sure, but round 2? heck of a gamble. Right now he is a media diva

Le'Raven Clark 6052 316
Hands 11 7/8
Arms 36 1/8
40 5.12
20 2.99
10 1.80
3 Cone
20 Shuttle
Bench 18
Vertical 30
Broad 9' 01"

R5 - Willie Beavers small DIII school player is fundamentally sound needs some coaching and playing time but the skill set is there for a 5th rounder. The issue would arise that he has a solid chance of becoming starting LT in the NFL in a few years. So why he is getting up to speed, OG might be a good place to start. Beavers may have what it takes to be a OT in this league but I see a zone OG with huge up side. Needs coaching but two years down the road he should be ready to go. Pro bowl caliber? maybe just maybe. solid starter I would think so.

Willie Beavers OT/OG 6045 321
Hands 9 1/2
Arms 33 1/2
40 5.28
20 3.02
10 1.81
3 Cone 7.75
20 Shuttle 4.71
Bench 20
Vertical 25 1/2
Broad 8' 07"

If I were to go developmental OL at the end of day 2 or at the beginning of day 3 I can live with the gamble.
