2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Ok some have asked to start the draft bit so with college bowl season getting under way I felt now is a good time. So to keep it simple I started with a loose top 50 with quick one liners for each.

1 Joey Bosa DE Ohio State Jr 6-5 275

just do not see all the hype
2 Laremy Tunsil OT Ole Miss Jr 6-5 305

RT LT RG LG makes no difference he can do them all
5 Paxton Lynch QB Memphis rJr 6-6 230

7 Jaylon Smith OLB Notre Dame Jr 6-3 240
ILB/OLB th solid run and coverage skills set.
8 Myles Jack OLB UCLA Jr 6-1 245

9 Laquon Treadwell WR Ole Miss Jr 6-2 210
Size hands and great burst in and out of cuts. quick not fast
10 DeForest Buckner DE Oregon Sr 6-7 290
I just do not get all the love. He disappears not only plays but entire games
11 Vernon Hargreaves III CB Florida Jr 5-11 199
Coverage skills are solid but he is a ball tackler first and a drag down tackler second.
12 Taylor Decker OT 3 Ohio State Sr 6-7 315
Solid blocker but I have seen him beat by lesser talent too often
13 Reggie Ragland ILB 1 Alabama Sr 6-2 252
He is the plugger in the draft against the run.
14 Robert Nkemdiche DT Ole Miss Jr 6-3 296
I see the talent on paper but not on the feild
15 Emmanuel Ogbah DE 3 Oklahoma State rJr 6-3 275

No player in the draft has helped his stock more just with their play alone
34 Josh Doctson Injured WR TCU rSr 6-2 195
Budget buyer version of Treadwell? Faster but skinner
35 *Desmond King CB 5 Iowa Jr 5-11 200

WARNING dude loves his Ecstasy
37 Cody Whitehair OG 1 Kansas State rSr 6-4 309
Limited versatility but a solid guard

Ashawn Robinson is HIGH on my list. Superior run stuffer, consistently beats his man and can get to the QB.

Really like WR Laquon Treadwell, Ole Miss; 6' 2", 210lbs for the Saints first round pick...

Marques Colston wasn't a burner, but his size, catch radius, route consistency, and great hands (yes, through most of his career he's had as reliable hands as anyone in the league); Saints need that big x-receiver for the offensive scheme...

For the second round pick, right now, like a couple of guys...

OG Cody Whitehair, Kansas St; 6' 4", 310 lbs...

TE Hunter Henry, Arkansas, 6' 6", 255 lbs...

And if we could commit to the 3-4, I'd like Baylor DE Shawn "Too Tall" Oakman, 6' 8", 280 lbs...

Hagan. Would you rather draft a guard or move one of the OT's to guard?

Evens is a shell of the player he once was. FA in 2018 yet balancing out dead money vs cap he could be cut in 2017 for a 6 million in cap savings.

Honestly I do not see a replacement on the roster much less a starter at LG.

So I see a need for a starter at LG as a must and the draft looks pretty solid at OG early on. Then draft a solid prospect to develop to take over for Evens at RG.

Round 2 Vadal Alexander RG/LG
Round 2/3 Sebastian Tretola RG

I would be surprised to see Sebastian make it out of round 2 so his team mate would work

Round 3/4 Denver Kirkland*, LG, Arkansas

Are still tops on my wish list at OG for right now

It aint a sexy draft but it would go a long way to settling a few key positions to keep Drew upright and healthy.

Peat needs to spend this off season working on his foot work to be the RT we drafted or the saints need to bite the bullet and put him at LT and TA over at RT. Peats development is key.

If the saints are to survive the next two years and go into the 2017 off season as a cash cow the has to be OL ready. I fear most of cash will be needed to on defense. You bit the bullet on an OT in round one for once do not stop there.

Besides we have a center we will be needing to sign also around that time.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Vadal Alexander got his arse kicked by Bama and in following games...

Am not interested in him one bit as a first, second or even a third rounder...

K-State's Whitehair as a second rounder is about as high as I'd go until we get into the all-star games, combines and pro day's...

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Vadal Alexander is no OT but the move back into OG does not scare me away. actually it peaks my interest. Last year at OG he was much better.

I could live with

Round 3 Sebastian Tretola RG Arkansas

Round 4/5 Denver Kirkland*, LG, Arkansas

A lot of beef up front to boost the run game

Trade Jordan for picks and own this draft like last year. I'm sure Ireland knows what we need. I see OG, OT, DE, TE, WR, OLB, SS, for starters. Need deeper depth at G, T, NT, ILB, and OLB.

Don't like or trust Alexander, especially after he got his arse whipped by Bama and fell apart toward the end of the season...

Prefer Whitehair in the second round...

The Arkansas guard I've rated fourth round (see previous post) where I think he'll still be after the stockades and meat market...

Agree though, that we have to take at least one guard, if not two in the draft...

With the first rounder, Treadwell is the guy, just hope is still there now that the team has decided to start playing football earlier rather than now that their jobs are on the line...

hagan714 12-30-2015 08:14 AM

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

I like Treadwell. sold getting in and out of cuts, great going after the ball but he does not have elite break away speed. Which in most cases in the 2016 draft holds true for almost all the WR. this is the year of the possession wr.

could the saints find a true #1 WR in Tredwell?

I think it is a safe pick with little risk.

leg is the only concern and in the famous draft of 2014 when the saints went after Cook he probably would have been a 1/2 round ranked WR in that draft. I would have had him ranked ahead of Kelvin Benjamin. To be honest I would have ranked him with Cook because he is more of a true WR vs a gimmick/slot WR. I still think Cook was a reach for the saints.

Think a shorter version of Mike Evens and a taller version of Jarvis Landry.

He is not as athletic as Landry but he has hands that are close to those of Landry and better than Evens.

I think we saw what kind of WR he will be last week in Allen Robinson of the Jags who has turned into a steal of the second round of the 2014 draft same size and speed, But Treadwell is a polished route runner with better hands which were the biggest knocks against Allen.

Despite the WR hype in the draft I see this as solid yet unspectacular crop of WR in 2016. That pushes Tredwell up in the draft IMO. But well worth praying for as we keep dropping in the draft.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

A'Shawn Robinson? he is looking to be a solid option as the saints win there way out of the top 10.

Of all the DL in this draft, he is the one that you know what you are drafting and there is not any hype in his game or ranking. So i officially will say this about Roberson

Robinson actually maybe the safest pick in the first round of the draft.

I compare Robinson with Kawann Short of the Panthers.

If the saints draft, say Austin Johnson Penn St. in the second, who i compare to a poor mans Star Lotulelei issues up front may become a mute issue.

The saints DT/NT rotation would have a chance to become the strongest position on the defense and have a rotation that could rival most teams in the NFL. Elite might be a safe word to use. If the saints go with a 43 defense.

John Jenkins while showing flashes has proven not to be the answer as a starter but can fill the roll as second player off the bench along with Austin Johnson as an active rotation. 50/50 playing time kind of rotation. Practice out of the Ravens playbook till the hotter hand shows itself. Neither can play the time Star Lotulelei does. But the rotation could equal his production IMO

Tyeler Davison rotating with Robinson and maybe Kaleb Eulls who has shown enough to keep around and keep training the kid up as your flex DE/DT player on the depth chart.

A'Shawn Robinson DT
Austin Johnson NT
John Jenkins NT
Tyeler Davison DT
Kaleb Eulls DT/DE

not a bad way to start the 2016 season.

after really watching him play last night, guard is the only position i can see him playing. but the biggest concern i have with him is the fact he appeared lost at the second level when his assignment could not easily be found. kind of a "Which Way Did He Go" comedy skits.

Now Le'Raven Clark of Texas Tech still has my interest as an OT that belongs inside. I read about the kid and all the negatives and I agree the biggest issue with him is he is spread OL that uses his hands too much and that leads to grabbing. Project sure but well worth looking into. round 4? round 5? He did a great job going after second level defensive players.

Like him too. He could be a difference maker at the next level ... he could cover the likes of Austin Jenkins or all world Greg Olsen (we know all too well) but as others have stated, "F/A for cost friendly players - fill our needs there".

When the draft rolls around, take the best player available. If it's Treadwell, Hargreaves, Jack etc ... I'd be cool with that :smokin:.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

with spiller on IR and the smell of injury settlement in the air I have a RB I want to bring up.

C.J. Prosise RB/WR Notre Dame 6011 220 4.62

I really think that 4.62 listing is wrong. He may not be a 4.40 guy but a 4.62? I just do not see it on the field. Any ways if his time is wrong i hope the saints take a hard long look at the kid.

Two years working in the slot for the Irish before moving into the backfield as a RB really peaks my interest.

vision, burst, ability to make you miss, long speed and he’s tough to bring down.

zone-stretch scheme, power-blocking, the I-formation or the Spread Offense.

a complete back? pretty darn close

pass-protection is solid but there is room for improvement.

2016 look ahead at Hightower? he might have played his way out of town given the cap situation.

2016 WR? Looks like we have 4 on the roster. Now a RB that can or better yet has played in the slot could be a smart move. Opening up an additional roster spot for another position of need. He was a DB coming out of high school.

Yet he still has another year of eligibility left and has yet declared. If he gets a 3/4 projection he may just go to NFL. Which I have a hard time seeing him improving on based on the fact he does not have that WOW speed factor. 4.5 range seems about right.

If he get the 5/6 tag for the draft i am banking he will return to ND.

This does not look 4.6 speed to me

Any time someone freaks out on that mojo and spends time in a psyche hospital and then turns around and does it again is a moron. That stuff isn't addictive which means he chose to do it again. That stuff is wayyyyyy more likely to give you a psychotic episode than even LSD. I know many hard core drug users who won't touch that stuff. If he is willing to risk a psychotic episode just to smoke something that won't show up on tests what else might he do

Make the Pro Bowl as a rookie after a 59 tackle, 8 interception season.

He's fantastic but Breaux and Lewis can be just as good

That all depends on what type of defensive system we will run. I hope the Saints really commits to a 4-3. Then an ILB wouldn't be our greatest need, Anthony will man that position for years to come. We would need another OLB thou.

Lewis is almost 30. We have to keep an eye on him. Injuries ate mounting.

Are we going 34 or 43?

If Dennis Allen Is the DC odds are we will be going 43 defense. So ILB would be a mute issue unless Anthony is to learn a totally new position as an OLB.

Picking at would be 11th it appears the hyped impact players would be off the board and we would once again pray for some one to drop into our lap. Right now I have Jalen Ramsey as one of the top players to drop in the draft. so we may get lucky. Myles Jack just keeps popping up. Is it really a reach for A'Shawn Robinson?

Win Sunday and some interference from the foot ball gods we could end up picking in between 15 and 18. Now it gets interesting lol

+1. And that Bama front 7 is, well ... nasty. You didn't hear A'Shawn Rob name called much (constant double teamed) but Allen, Ragland & Reed were just as good.

IMO all of the aforementioned players will be difference makers on Sunday. Hopefully Ireland and his staff takes a good look at these guys moving forward.

Looks like we will be somewhere between 10-13. Unless a couple of top dogs fall I would trade back to about 20. It would give us another rd 2 which we really need.

Danno or anyone else who has watched a lot of Bama/SEC football this season, feel free to chime in and provide your thoughts and opinions.

Side note: Keep a lazy eye on him tomorrow night down here in Arlington vs MSU.

Curious to see them in the all-star bowl games; but they've only gotten better, especially since the LSU game...

Mackensie Alexander CB Clemson or Vernon Hargreaves III CB Florida in Rd 1.
Vadal Alexander OG 2 LSU, Josh Doctson WR TCU, Beckwith LB LSU or Joshua Perry OLB Ohio State in the 2nd rd
Vernon Butler DT La Tech, Pharoah Cooper WR SC in the 3rd
Josh Garnett OG Stanford, Carl Nassib DE Penn St. in the 4th.

Anything like this I would love.

For the very 1st time, I wouldn't mind losing to the Falcons, in fact, I hope we do lose
