this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Lee is a 3 down type of WLB no way around it and a good one with a high floor and upside still to develop. But mid first round talent? I am not completely sold on that one. Oddly enough ...

Lee is a 3 down type of WLB no way around it and a good one with a high floor and upside still to develop. But mid first round talent? I am not completely sold on that one. Oddly enough it is the lack off talent at a position that can drive players up the chart also. WLB is a questionable position this year. A lot of players are hype driven at WLB.

WLB get all the press and the glory. Lee is a very good WLB but playing with Washington and Bosa in front of him makes me wonder if it more the sum of the parts that made him so good. I credit Lee, he is a good player. But I would ponder the sum of the parts bit when making the pick. Plus he did kinda fade towards the end of the season. As did most of OSU after they were out of the running. So when drafting an OSU player this year I will question this part of their game.

Other players were the sum of their parts is a consideration

Kinda like Kevin Dodd DE Clemson and all the fan fare he is getting. another good player but he really did not take off till the return of D.J. Reader DT Clemson. When Reader got back on the field then Dodd starting to have a bigger impact on games. Or was it Reader that was really having the most impact of the two?

Same goes for the DL of Penn st. Almost all of them are falling on the boards but one, Austin Johnson NT Penn State. As the play of the others are exposed the more Austin play becomes obvious.

just some thing i always ponder

This is why for months I've beaten the drum for either Danny Trevathan or Brandon Marshall (RFA)...

Was glad to see Ellerbe redo his contract, but at his age, can he ever get healthy?!?

Still think the first two (2) priority free agent signings should be, first, NT Damon Harrison (Jets) and, second, WLB Danny Trevathan (Broncos)...

With Ellerbe redoing his contract, get the feeling the Saints are thinking draft for a WLB and for the second priority FA signing, it'll be a guard...

If I were the Saints GM, I'd sign Harrison, which will take a signicant contract; then, if Brees wants better Guard protection, I'd use that as leverage in a re-worked deal - "You want 15+ or are you willing to knock it down to 10 and allow us to go out and pay a Evan Mathis and Alex Boone?!?"

No matter what happens, we must acquire a proven NT like Harrison and not risk it in the draft...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

DJ Reader worries me; would really like more details on his "personal reasons" for leaving the team; I get losing your father, but Clemson has had its share of personal substance abuse problems recently - and we need every draft pick with the salary cap hell we'll in...
Reader says the decision was all his own, after feeling he was not mentally ready to play. His father’s death still weighed on him, but Reader says he also felt he needed to grow up. So rather than take the starting opportunity that was there waiting for him, he took a step back.

....

“I got to spend a lot of me time, getting to know myself a lot better. It was good for me,” Reader said. “I learned I had a lot of growing up to do. Through that process it helped me grow a lot. That’s really the main thing that got done.”

Where did he grow the most?

“I think I just grew mentally. I’m a lot mentally stronger now. I’m excited to see where that takes me.”

I really see no issue with why he and what he did.

I'd be sure he's carefully vetted re: those statements; if accurate, then it swings the other way for him on his character and personality profile with a positive...
