What do you guys think of this dude as a later round safety?

He can back up Byrd this season and take over in 2017 when Byrd gets cut.

He is a scraper and like a few other safeties in the draft he played mostly CB last year and like them he is behind a bit on the learning curve. My three faves at FS/SS/CB in this draft are

Jalen Ramsey, FS/SS/CB, Florida State, 6005, 209 4.41
Sean Davis FS/SS/CB Maryland 6011 201 4.46
Justin Simmons SS/FS/CB Boston College 6024 201 4.59

Top speed is an issue at 4.60 because he needs to work on being patience. Bites on ball fakes at times. Drew can coach him up. You can put him on a TE and feel comfortable.

His all around game is about as solid as any in the draft. Excellent football IQ. Bounced around the secondary a bit too much at BC because he was that good. Not a finished product. Right now he is solid in zone and needs to work on man coverage. He is a solid tackler also. Shame BC did not turn him loose on blitzs too much. But when they did he looked pretty good.

SS/FS right now IMO.

I would be happy to see both of these guys in saints uniform. Both are tackling machines and ball hawkers.

R3 Sean Davis FS/SS/CB Maryland 6011 201 4.46
R5 Justin Simmons SS/FS/CB Boston College 6024 201 4.59

Davis has the skill set that could make the final years of Byrds contract kind of a mute issue. Davis is vastly under rated.
Simmons might give Kenny a run for his money in tackling skills

I like what I've read on Justin. Day 3 steal? He doesn't shy away from tackling either.

I said it last year this is the year of the safety. here is another late rounder for to look at. I like this kid also.

traits and ball skills to be a corner but lacks the balance. change of direction is a challenge so FS it is. Just look at the shuttle and cone times. Excellent in run support. Played all over the NC State secondary so he is raw for the most part. So coaching could make a CB out of the kid.

Simmons = Pierre Warren

He'll make the occasional interception (which is rare for the Saints) but he's not very fluid in coverage and the liabilities will probably exceed the production...

Late round safety to consider - Clemson's T. J. Green is who I'm looking as well as the Buckeye's Tyvis Powell...

If we somehow sign Nick Fairley and relieve ourselves of a compulsory selection on the defensive line; we could look to Darian Thompson, who was an out-and-out ballhawk; had dropped him earlier from my Mock after a poor Combine performance, but in the last few days it has come to light that he was once of several players that had come down with a viral bug thus affecting his performance...

Pierre is a FS and Simmons is a SS. Playing Simmons as a FS would be a huge waste of his skill set.

Simmons = KV but better coverage skill set.
