Saint 04 Highlite of the year?? Anyone??
I was watching The last game of the season again, getting ready for next year and as good as that game was I thought the TB game was better. The Car game had, Brooks on fire, The D solid, playoff atmosphere and tons of momentum shifts. I remember Howards sack on Delhomme inside the 20 or so causing the fumble that Smith recovered. That was one that stuck out to me. The Highlite for me I think is still that opening kick off return for a TD from Stecker in the TB game. It just Summed up the whole season in one shot! All the excitement and pre game build up, Then the kick insues. A Saints error and the anger and frustration builds only to see a ray of hope open up as Stecker Eludes a swarm of TB tacklers. The thought of "Could he go all the way?" pops in, but U quiclkly remember it's a Saints game. But then the unthinkable happens and he does, He takes it all the way back for a 1st qtr TD! Wow. Then of course the Bucs answer on the next drive and it's all nullified just like that. But that game had it all, and the way it was won, 2min left and a Fakhir Brown hit followed by a Smith fumble recovery. 2 Young guys stepping up at key times. Of course the Stallworth winning TD was a bonus too. Any other Hilites from anyone else??

The backwards pass. I will never EVER forget that. It may not be a great play, in fact it is a terrible play, but it is the play that sticks out most in my mind from this season. Just a mind-boggling decision. That is the highlight(or lowlight) I will remember for the longest time.

The most exciting play for me was in our 2nd game against the Bucs!!
We had to win that game to have a chance of making the playoffs. We were behind very late in the 4th quarter. The Bucs defense had been giving our offense hell. It was 4th down and 9 and we had to have the first down or the game was over. Brooks drops back to pass, no one was open, he takes off with the ball and dives for the first down. We would go on to score a TD and win the game. It was pure Saints\' drama!! |

I also agree that the second Tampa game was a key one -- but here is what sticks out to me -- The Beerman\'s punt return to the 11 yard line which jump startes us to win the game
Although Brooks diving for the first down showed heart and passion I wish he would display every game |

the clearest most defining moment for me was unfortunately a lowlight not a highlight...
lose the seatle opener, okay they are pegged for the superbowl and it wasn\'t a blowout. okay beat perhaps the weakest team in the league, the niners, unimpressively okay i\'ll take it. the rams win was impressive though. THIS i thought to myself is how a playoff team plays and wins. then to arizona... the first drive, 4th and one at the goal. i even like the call, hell, it is another of the worst teams in the league. even if stopped we have them at the one foot line. then THE PLAY, brooks fumbles away of course.. i stand up from my chair and say \"motherfocker, here we go again\". i knew that game and the season turned downward on that play. i thought this is not only how playoff teams do not play, this is how inept losing teams play. wheelchair bound emmitt embarasses the team running and then throwing one of the worst touchdown passes in history. after the game brooks takes blame sorta but i remember more his \"i\'m da leader but i\'m tired of it. i\'z gots to re-evaluate my sitchyation hyeah\". that turned the team from instead of 3-1 to 2-4 in a three game losing streak and burying. i had no hope until game 13. then i only thought cuz of the parity driven design of the nfl could this bumbling group might actually stumble into the playoffs (and then do well there). forget all the must-win games, these must-not-lose ones are the ones that cement a bad legacy. |
