The thing I want is road wins, you can't expect Brees alone to shut the home crowd up in the fourth q in a close game if the receivers are not paying attention. I was listening to a podcast from D professor from January and they clarified that the players need to listen to Drew and Sean. The games we have a chance to win next year are SF(look at their home games last year) and KC if the offense can make plays in a likely tight knit defensive game. But are we really hoping for our receivers like Snead and Coleman to make clutch plays against those secondaries in the fourth q and not expect Maclin, Kelce, Treadwell(who SF is targeting), TSmith, all bigger receivers, to make plays because.....Drew Brees is better than those QBs? Their defense is better than ours and will be next year too. I think SD is another one the offense will need to show up because Rivers is not gonna fail to show up in that game and will play with a chip on his shoulder. But I'm expecting that to be a shootout anyway.
I think you are missing the point and the stat. That year was the exception to the rule. Look at all the other teams that have been winning the SB since and even before - top ranked Defenses wins the Championship games.
Even this year look at what the D's done to the offenses - made them pointless.
