PFF: RANKING ALL 32 NFL CORNERBACK GROUPS
The NFL has become a sub-package league. The transition is still on-going, and teams are moving in different directions with their fifth defensive back, but the fact remains that a team’s fifth DB now plays more than their third linebacker. With that comes a shift in focus when we consider the strength of cornerback situations around the NFL. No longer can you simply look at the strength of a starting pair—that third corner is an increasingly important cog in the defense. Freshly armed with that knowledge, here’s a 1–32 ranking of every NFL CB corps; we’ve considered every team’s top three cornerbacks for our best projection of how each depth chart would likely line up if the season began today... 21. New Orleans Saints Top CBs: Delvin Breaux, Keenan Lewis, Kyle Wilson Key stat: Breaux surrendered 10 touchdowns into his coverage last season, a league-high. You’ll struggle to find a corner with a more “Jekyll and Hyde” stat line than Delvin Breaux produced last season. He allowed less than 50 percent of passes targeted into his coverage to be completed (15 pass defenses), but a quarter of those 40 completions were converted into touchdowns. On the whole, 2015 was a strong season for Breaux, and while the returning Keenan Lewis will provide an enormous upgrade on Brandon Browner, he is yet to produce his form from his final season in Pittsburgh that would see this trio rise in the rankings. |

Likely no room for Reggie Bush on Saints roster, Sean Payton tells Rich Eisen Show | Saints | theadvocate.com
“I’m sure he’s going to play this year,” Payton said in a Monday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “I don’t know if our roster is going to allow that right now.” New Orleans already has plenty of options at the satellite back role Bush plays in Payton’s offense. C.J. Spiller is back and fully healthy, the Saints still have Travaris Cadet and New Orleans has spent two consecutive seventh-round picks on Marcus Murphy and Daniel Lasco, who both have the skill set to play the role. Commentary: So Ingram is backed by Hightower and Spiller, Cadet, Murphy and Lasco compete for the ScatBack... |

How new additions on offense can help Saints within 10-yard line
BY NICK UNDERHILL | THE ADVOCATE Nick Underhill JUL 7, 2016 - 11:04 AM The New Orleans Saints didn't have many issues on offense last year. But there was one play that highlighted one of the underrated, nagging obstacles the unit faced. It came last fall against the Philadelphia Eagles. Operating from the 3-yard line, quarterback Drew Brees took the snap and faced immediate pressure. As things quickly closed in around him, he fled to the right side of the pocket and was eventually forced to toss the ball up and pray for the best. The 6-foot-4 Marques Colston was in single coverage on the left side of the field in single coverage. Turning that way wasn't an option. His options to the right were Willie Snead and Brandin Cooks. He chose Snead. It’s debatable if Brees ever saw his target, who was fighting through double coverage. But he tossed the ball up anyways, and it fell well beyond Snead in the back corner of the end zone. Colston might have had a shot at getting a hand on the ball with a well-timed jump, but not the 5-foot-11 Snead. To call this a critical issue for the passing offense might be overstating things. Brees attempted 30 passes last season from 10 yards and in last season. Eleven of those resulted in touchdowns. However, he only completed 17 of his overall attempts, which is one of the lower percentages of his career. The grading scale here might be harsh, but the efficiency could have been better. The Saints admit it, too... Source: How new additions on offense can help Saints within 10-yard line | Saints | theadvocate.com |

Wow...
RANKING ALL 32 NFL RUNNING BACK UNITS Le'Veon Bell and the Pittsburgh Steelers grab the No. 1 spot in PFF's ranking of NFL RB units entering the 2016 season. MIKE RENNER | 1 DAY AGO ![]() (Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images) On the precipice of the 2016 season, the PFF analysis crew has teamed up to rank the league’s position groups from top to bottom. Up today are the running backs. There were no hard-and-fast guidelines, other than to give credence to the players most likely to receive carries, and to assume full health for all players. Without further ado, let’s see where each team ended up... 21. New Orleans Saints Starter: Mark Ingram Backups: C.J. Spiller, Daniel Lasco Key stat: C.J. Spiller set the PFF record for elusive rating with the Bills in 2012 (94.6). It’s sad how much injuries have turned C.J. Spiller from one of the most dynamic players in the NFL into an average third-down back. On 34 catches last season, Spiller broke just two tackles. Mark Ingram will likely see the bulk of the carries again, and his steadiness might be a tad underrated; 60 percent of his yards have come after contact the past four years. |
