Saints at eagles week 5
First drive, eagles punted
First saints drive 1st and 10 at NO 39 (13:07 - 1st) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short left to C.Spiller to NO 36 for -3 yards (M.Jenkins) 2nd and 13 at NO 36 (12:38 - 1st) M.Ingram left tackle to NO 41 for 5 yards (F.Cox) 3rd and 8 at NO 41 (11:58 - 1st) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short right to B.Watson pushed ob at PHI 38 for 21 yards (E.Biggers) 1st and 10 at PHI 38 (11:32 - 1st) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short left to W.Snead 2nd and 10 at PHI 38 (11:28 - 1st) D.Brees sacked at PHI 45 for -7 yards (B.Logan) 3rd and 17 at PHI 45 (10:46 - 1st) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete deep right to W.Snead 4th and 17 at PHI 45 (10:41 - 1st) B.Fields punts 45 yards to end zone, Center-J.Drescher, Touchback So Brees gets bailed out by Watson for a big first down but running the ball on 2nd and 13? Then, on a fresh set of downs, Snead is 0-2 on targets. Eagles drive down the field on second drive but Browner gets a pick, who ends up defending Cooper after Lewis gets blown up on Cooper's last big play. We scored on the next drive. Snead finally capitalized on his third target. Ingram had back to back big running plays. Cooks got a big catch, his first of the game and Ingram and Watson capped off the drive. Philadelphia again moved down the field, because the saints obviously were not game planning for Mathews(Murray struggled at this point). However, Bradford threw a pass to the wrong receiver(M Austin) that led to another pick. And here's how our fourth drive went. 1st and 10 at NO 20 (14:14 - 2nd) D.Brees pass incomplete short left to B.Watson 2nd and 10 at NO 20 (14:10 - 2nd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short left to M.Ingram pushed ob at NO 24 for 4 yards (N.Carroll) 3rd and 6 at NO 24 (13:47 - 2nd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete deep right to B.Cooks (E.Biggers) 4th and 6 at NO 24 (13:41 - 2nd) B.Fields punts 57 yards to PHI 19, Center-J.Drescher, downed by NO-B.Dixon On 2nd and 10 we're using a screen, which killed the drive. Eagles finally score on fourth drive in short order due to big plays by Murray and Huff. My guess is Huff was opposite Cooper, which means Breaux was on him Our next drive(the fourth) 1st and 10 at NO 13 (11:39 - 2nd) (No Huddle) M.Ingram right end to NO 16 for 3 yards (B.Maxwell) 2nd and 7 at NO 16 (11:06 - 2nd) M.Ingram left end to NO 20 for 4 yards (B.Allen) 3rd and 3 at NO 20 (10:30 - 2nd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short left to M.Colston 4th and 3 at NO 20 (10:25 - 2nd) B.Fields punts 49 yards to PHI 31, Center-J.Drescher, fair catch by D.Sproles Who says we weren't running the ball? And who is Brees going to on third down:Colston, who appeared to be open. The fifth eagles drive, again they're driving down the field due to Sproles and Ertz, but a negative screen to Murray followed by a penalty, throwing to the inexperienced Agholor(or untalented), a scramble, and incompletion by Cooper, thanks to Lewis, turned the ball over on downs. Fifth drive 1st and 10 at NO 35 (6:05 - 2nd) (Shotgun) K.Robinson right end ran ob at NO 47 for 12 yards 1st and 10 at NO 47 (5:43 - 2nd) M.Ingram right end to 50 for 3 yards (B.Logan) 2nd and 7 at 50 (5:12 - 2nd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short right to B.Cooks 3rd and 7 at 50 (5:09 - 2nd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass deep left to W.Snead to PHI 28 for 22 yards (C.Maragos) [C.Barwin] Snead makes another big play after his last one three drives ago. 1st and 10 at PHI 28 (4:48 - 2nd) M.Ingram left end to PHI 29 for -1 yards (B.Logan) 2nd and 11 at PHI 29 (4:11 - 2nd) D.Brees sacked at PHI 39 for -10 yards (F.Cox) (3:28 - 2nd) Timeout #2 by NO at 03:28. 3rd and 21 at PHI 39 (3:28 - 2nd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short right to C.Spiller to PHI 44 for -5 yards (M.Jenkins) 4th and 26 at PHI 44 (2:46 - 2nd) B.Fields punts 37 yards to PHI 7, Center-J.Drescher, downed by NO-R.Humber So SP decided to again use Ingram off a fresh first down for a even worse outcome. Then on 3rd and long, we throw a screen going for a big Spiller play which went for negative yards. Drive killed. A penalty cancels out a big play by Matthews on the sixth eagles drive, leading to a punt. With 1:26 left in the half 1st and 10 at NO 28 (1:26 - 2nd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short middle to M.Colston to NO 39 for 11 yards (J.Hicks) 1st and 10 at NO 39 (1:12 - 2nd) (No Huddle, Shotgun) D.Brees sacked at NO 31 for -8 yards (F.Cox). FUMBLES (F.Cox) [F.Cox], RECOVERED by PHI-J.Hicks at NO 31. J.Hicks to NO 31 for no gain (M.Ingram). PENALTY on PHI, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, 15 yards, enforced between downs. The Replay Official reviewed the fumble ruling, and the play was Upheld. The ruling on the field stands The turnover leads to a FG as Bradford was trying to go for the homerun. After two big Matthews plays, Bradford goes for the receivers who were covered, Cooper and Huff. Appears they were covered by the same CB(Lewis?) as they were on his left. Saints had no time to score before the end of the half so Brees took a kneel. Second half underway and it's 10-7 Philadelphia. 1st and 10 at NO 25 (14:55 - 3rd) (Shotgun) K.Robinson left end to NO 27 for 2 yards (J.Hicks; C.Thornton) 2nd and 8 at NO 27 (14:22 - 3rd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short right to W.Snead (N.Carroll) 3rd and 8 at NO 27 (14:14 - 3rd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass deep left to B.Cooks ran ob at PHI 27 for 46 yards 1st and 10 at PHI 27 Cooks breaks off his biggest play of the game to get the saints in the redzone. (13:52 - 3rd) M.Ingram left end to PHI 26 for 1 yard (F.Cox) 2nd and 9 at PHI 26 (13:16 - 3rd) C.Spiller right end to PHI 27 for -1 yards (B.Logan) 3rd and 10 at PHI 27 (12:41 - 3rd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short right to M.Colston to PHI 10 for 17 yards (B.Maxwell) 1st and Goal at PHI 10 Colston steps up a second time out of three total targets. (12:02 - 3rd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short right to M.Ingram 2nd and Goal at PHI 10 (11:57 - 3rd) D.Brees pass short left to W.Snead to PHI 3 for 7 yards (N.Carroll; M.Jenkins) 3rd and Goal at PHI 3 (11:20 - 3rd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short right to W.Snead 4th and Goal at PHI 3 Every first down, where is Brees going? Ingram. Think defenses did not figure this out? And Snead goes left one play and right the next. Snead is 3 of 6 so far. (11:12 - 3rd) Zach Hocker 21 Yd Field Goal Eagles on first second half drive score. One notable standout is Browner was matching up well with Cooper but then he goes on Huff, where he gets burned. Furthermore, Browner is penalty free so far. Jordan and Lewis have the only saints penalties at this point. Second second half drive Brees gets sacked and fumbles again. It happens in the first play. That fumble leads to another eagles score with one play by Celek. Now the game is out of hand for us. Third drive in the half 1st and 10 at NO 20 (6:31 - 3rd) M.Ingram right guard to NO 21 for 1 yard (F.Cox) 2nd and 9 at NO 21 Talk about not being in a rush (5:54 - 3rd) D.Brees pass short left to M.Colston pushed ob at NO 29 for 8 yards (N.Carroll) Colston 3 of 4. 3rd and 1 at NO 29 (5:16 - 3rd) M.Ingram up the middle to NO 30 for 1 yard (B.Allen) 1st and 10 at NO 30 (4:38 - 3rd) D.Brees pass short right to M.Hoomanawanui to NO 37 for 7 yards (M.Jenkins) 2nd and 3 at NO 37 (4:14 - 3rd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short right to M.Colston (B.Maxwell) 3rd and 3 at NO 37 (4:10 - 3rd) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete deep right to C.Spiller 4th and 3 at NO 37 (4:05 - 3rd) B.Fields punts 13 yards to 50, Center-J.Drescher, out of bounds Colston whiffs on a short catch. Let this be known, he's not good for plays under 10 yards, currently 3 of 5. However, Spiller had no business getting a deep pass on a drive where 3 yards was needed for a first. He's done nothing all game and SP could not seem to grasp this is not a team you use screens on. Eagles move down the field again, but end up with a fg. Why was Breaux defending a TE? He got lit up by Celek on a play. Fourth drive and heading into fourth q 1st and 10 at NO 27 (0:24 - 3rd) M.Ingram left guard to NO 44 for 17 yards (M.Jenkins; N.Carroll) END QUARTER 3 1st and 10 at NO 44 (14:59 - 4th) (Shotgun) K.Robinson right end to NO 45 for 1 yard (J.Hicks) This is where SP messed up, because of the past Ingram stuffing on first downs, he decides to change it up with Khiry. Ingram had MO and Payton ripped it from him. 2nd and 9 at NO 45 (14:26 - 4th) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete short middle to J.Hill (D.Ryans) Why do we target this player? 3rd and 9 at NO 45 (14:19 - 4th) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass incomplete deep left to B.Cooks (J.Hicks) Can Cooks deliver on crucial third downs? He so far has not. 4th and 9 at NO 45 (14:15 - 4th) B.Fields punts 36 yards to PHI 19, Center-J.Drescher, out of bounds This is the kind of game where Cooks is exposed. He just does not step up in these games. Not only that, SP killed the drive pulling Ingram out. Why wasn't Colston on the field when he clearly was the only one who could make the deep plays, or Snead who needed to be relied on more than not. Eagles fourth drive and they are now running out the clock. Two penalties by Ellerbe and Williams didn't help but eagles ended up stopped near goal line with a fg. The defense has been worn down. Fifth drive 1st and 10 at NO 20 (10:11 - 4th) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short left to B.Watson to NO 29 for 9 yards (W.Thurmond) 2nd and 1 at NO 29 (9:47 - 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) D.Brees pass deep left to W.Snead to PHI 12 for 59 yards (N.Carroll) 1st and 10 at PHI 12 (8:59 - 4th) D.Brees pass short right to M.Hoomanawanui to PHI 11 for 1 yard (D.Ryans). FUMBLES (D.Ryans), RECOVERED by PHI-B.Maxwell at PHI 15. B.Maxwell to PHI 17 for 2 yards (B.Cooks) Just what was that? Why have the saints been afraid to use Ingram or Colston in these situations? Even Snead. so far, where has even Coleman been? The secondary has eventually quit and eagles are playing conservative. Browner starts to break down with two penalties. The eagles get a fg. Sixth drive of half 1st and 10 at NO 20 (4:19 - 4th) (Shotgun) D.Brees pass short middle to M.Ingram to NO 33 for 13 yards (M.Jenkins) 1st and 10 at NO 33 One of the rare rb passing plays this season (3:58 - 4th) (No Huddle, Shotgun) D.Brees pass short left intended for B.Coleman INTERCEPTED by W.Thurmond [M.Smith] at NO 48. W.Thurmond to NO 4 for 44 yards (W.Snead) This is what happens when a receiver is rusted. Coleman gets nothing all game long and when needing to be relied on he's beaten by a defender. That led to a TD for Philadelphia. The final drive saints have nothing to lose and they close it with a TD. But not without some failed plays by Spiller and KRob. Snead has a couple more big plays for 16 and 20 but misses one other. Cooks decides to finally show up. But it was prevent. Cooks scored with nothing on the clock. So had we played better defense like 2013, we allow one less TD against them and maybe one less FG. We still only scored 17 points which could have been 10 points if eagles wanted to play that last drive. Defense did not lose this game. Lack of offense lost this game. Snead needs volume, Colston either needs to get full snaps or go to the back burner. Cooks is not consistent. The defense held the opponents to FGs and the offense could never respond. The weaknesses on defense were the slot, TE, Sproles, and Mathews. Browner did do well against Cooper for the most part. Pretty much pass rush a issue. But Payton got too creative in a road game like this. |

Re: Saints at eagles week 5
Yes, defense played bad but they held them to FGs also. If we played better defense in this game we maybe prevent the short drive where Huff scored, and maybe one of the FGs. Two of the TDs however were straight off of us with one play needed. And it was 10-17 when Brees fumbled the first time. Had it been 10-13 does he still do that? Probably so it ends up 10-19. The offense still has to do something and the playcalling to me did not look like it would have been any different in a closer contest with us trailing. The receivers did not step up in crucial drives where Brees doesn't get sacked and lose the ball. Of course guard play accounts for the fumbles. If that doesn't happen do we score on those drives?
The next game up is the colts game. I'll just merge in in the next thread. |

Re: Saints at eagles week 5
I expect our defense to play lights out style similar to the top defenses in the NFL play at some point in the next year or 2 or maybe 3. Problem is will the offense be able to muster points, its seems to of been lacking the last 2 years, this team could be heading the same way the Broncos did, talent is there, but you notice Denvers offense has sputtered alot this season to.
