So aside from a Brees' restructure, how do we work the cap?
Apparently Browner and Byrd have dead money, so cutting them won't help.
We know there will be some likely restructuring among Colston(I would prefer we move on), Streif and maybe we part ways with Morestead. Who else do we let go of? I would say Evans or Streif one of them have to go. Maybe Lewis is traded? I know that's outrageous but he's 29 going on 30 and they traded Graham unexpectedly and Lewis might be the best trade chip. Breaux showed promise and PJ Jones should be back from injury it could happen. And Ingram...he got hurt but the running game showed it could survive without him. I really don't know. On top of the fact also we have to pay Armstead. |

We don't over-react.
We re-negotiate our high priced players and make room under the cap, like we've done for the last 10 years. |

we are painted into a corner. cap and 25% of the cap tied up in dead money. silly to keep adding to the amounts when the light at the end of the tunnel is so near. just two years....just two years....2017 we arrive at the promise land.

Brees already said publicly that he is willing to work with the team. Structuring him right cleans the cap altogether. |

Re: So aside from a Brees' restructure, how do we work the cap?
Our specific needs are:
Nose Tackle - Saints defenses was historically good when we had unsung, blue collar nose tackles like Pig Goff, Norman Hand, Hollis Thomas, Frank Warren, Jumpy Geathers; though not stat hounds, but were effective collapsing the pocket, controlling the line of scrimmage... Weakside Linebacker - Ellerbe looks the part, but can't stay, healthy, on the field; though many don't won't to admit it, Scott Shanle doesn't look so awful now; but the Saints are in need of a reliable linebacker who can operate in space... Right Guard - just one more is not going to cut it with Jahri Evans who's had one foot out the door since he first got paid; the Saints had an excellent opportunity to compete and sign FA Clint Boling last season, allowing Lelito to continue to push at his more natural right guard... X Receiver - Father Time and recurrent lower leg, foot problems have limited Colston's playing time; and since trading Graham, the Saints don't have a big, go-to receiver for red zone and 3rd down opportunities; despite moving up and down the field, the Saints' offense stalled and it translated into losses in the L column... Safety - this may not seem a priority, but no position has seen more miseed time because of injury, nor greater disappoint in FA money than the safety position; plus, when the defense has played well, big downfield pass plays or long gash runs were because the Safeties failed to limit the damage... True, the Saints have very limited salary cap resources from having Loomis having painted themselves into a corner as Hagan aptly described... But, free agent solutions for the Saints are limited this season which I think is a good thing that they can't foolishly waste money as they have... There's a great fit for our defensive line in Jets FA NT Damon Harrison as well as weakside linebacker Broncos FA WLB Danny Trevathan; there are a couple of options at guard, though they have health questions; there are no legitimate FA options at wide receiver; and there's not much better available at Safety in FA than re-signing our oft-injured safeties now... We secure Damon Harrison and Danny Trevathan; maybe sign a guard; create the cap room by re-working Brees' contract; see what shakes out with Keenan Lewis' health and move from there... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
