New Orleans Saints could clear $7 million in cap space with moves

I keep hearing phrases like "just backload" Drew and potential free agents, etc. Aren't those the reasons we are in a salary cap mess in the first place? To compensate the current dead money and bring in talent, we would have to use larger signing bonuses a nd prorate over the length of the contract, releasing players early causes "dead money". See Junior Galette mess as an example.

I want new top talent on this team too but this mess has to stop at some point.

I think the thought process is still about winning now while Drew can still sling it. In my opinion, Drew still has 3 years before we notice a decline in ability (Manning style decline).

So yes, back load the contract, sign some mid-tier/role player free agents and go get another championship.

If we shoot JG can we put that money back in the cap?
