NFL salary cap set at $155.27 million for 2016

The salary cap for the 2016 NFL season has been set.

The NFL Players Association has been informed that the salary cap for 2016 has been set at $155.27 million per team, union sources and player agents told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Friday.

An NFL spokesman would not confirm the figure to NFL Media.

The number represents a nearly $12 million increase over the 2015 salary cap of $143.28 million. Since 2012, the cap has increased by nearly $35 million.

Several teams will enter the free-agent market on March 9 with plenty of cap space to work with. As Around The NFL's Conor Orr pointed out this week, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers each will enter the new league year with more than $50 million in cap room.

On Thursday, the NFLPA revealed salary-cap "carryover" amounts for every NFL team on Thursday

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

We are making gains. Not in last place, even with 22 mil in dead money. Looks like we will release BB March 9th to spread his hit over this and next year. So we will have some dead money '17 too, but clearly an acceptable amount.

We are in a better position than last year and we have not released Colston yet, Browner, or restructured Drew.

We need to be smart with our contracts this year because this is the last year of the **** for us if we are.

So I am looking at that website and cutting Browner post June 1 would open up another 1.2 mil in cap space and create less dead money. Would we hold onto him for this long? Is there any benefit to that vs cutting him March 9th?

Cutting Colston opens 3.2 Mil more

Any ideas how much we could save restructuring Drew?

You can actually designate the post June 1st cut in March. However, I believe you can only do that with 2 players.

Depends if we are looking to sign somebody in specific. Otherwise just leave it alone.

Yeah, I don't get that heaping praise on Loomis...

Millions of adults get themselves maxed on credit cards and have to creatively move money around to make monthly interest payments...

Seems that many of those people would qualify as a salary cap specialist and general manager; and probably make better personnel moves...

I'd prefer to see a better management plan with regards to the salary cap so that we have at least 25% turnover flexibility each season...

Then we'd be enabled to sign upward trending, younger players and weathering bad signings for one season rather than three...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
