Saints sign James Laurinaitis

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; This better not make or break our season next year. i was hoping he would be backup depth behind Allerbe in case he gets hurt again....

I remember Laurinitis had 18 tackles vs LSU one year. On our LB core he will help. Definetely. Good signing.

Solid deal. 3 years 9,75mil

2016: cap 1,55mil, base 900k
2017: cap 3,35mil, base 2,45mil
2018: cap 3,35mil base 2,45mil

only 1,8mil guaranteed (signing bonus)

Laurinaitis’ three-year deal has a base value of $8.5MM, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (all Twitter links). More details on the deal:

Signing bonus: $1.8MM
Workout bonus: $50K annually
Roster bonuses: $250K in 2017 and 2018 (due on third day of respective league years)
Incentives: Up to $500K annually via playing time and team ranking
Annual base salaries $900K (2016), $2.45MM (2017), $2.45MM (2018)
Annual cap hits: $1.55MM (2016), $3.35MM (2017), $3.35MM (2018)

But he knows he’ll earn his place largely by what he does on the field. Laurinaitis made 109 tackles, a sack and an interception last season while playing through a hyperextended left elbow that included a torn ulnar collateral ligament and left him unable to take on blocks with anything but his shoulders.

Now healthy again, Laurinaitis plans to show the Saints, and the rest of the league, that he’s still the kind of player who can be the heart and soul of a defense.
OK, I'm liking this signing better and better.
