Hits and misses. Something to consider

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Or at least feel better about. We all like to blame the Saints coaching staff and scouts for some bone headed signings, especially in free agency. God knows some of it is deserved, but for every crappy signing like Browner ...

Hits and misses. Something to consider

Or at least feel better about. We all like to blame the Saints coaching staff and scouts for some bone headed signings, especially in free agency. God knows some of it is deserved, but for every crappy signing like Browner and Byrd there have been more than there fair share of surprises.

From the beginning a lot of people thought Reggie never lived up to his drift status, and I agree. We did get Colston though and IMO he gave us 1st round production during his time here. Pierre Thomas is in the mix too. We took a gamble on Shockey, it worked pretty well. We bombed on some defensive picks but got an Ivory.
Greer and Lewis worked out well for us. We took a gamble on a 3rd round project TE and got some good play out of him. Last year we got snowed on Browner but stole Breaux.

There are several others I have missed, but someone in scouting is either extremely lucky with no name signings but sucks when it comes to what looks like a sure thing or at least one person knows what he is doing. I say promote that person.

I like to think of it more a case of random precision than accuracy

Sad thing is they have looked through tons of **** to get the few diamonds they found so it's tough to not question the moves the FO makes

As for the Bush selection I remember all the screaming for Vince Young! That's who we should have selected. The no longer in football for many years now Vince Young! I know we are envious of Houston and all the championships they won with Mario Williams! Was Bush worthy of a first round pick to serve as a "template back?" Remember he was traded when Darren Sproles was available.

Was it worth it? YES!!! SB was won. I think Sproles was an upgrade over Bush but the thing is you play the cards you are dealt.

As for as Young I don't recall the screaming for him... I recall the choices were 1-2 either Williams are Bush. I think it was all up to Houston and wed take the other option. We could have easily ended up with Williams but it worked out the way it did.

Leinart would have bein my choice of QB over Young any day. I think SP could have gotten him to perform.

Re: Hits and misses. Something to consider

Yes, we've had hits and misses like all teams, but our misses have been extremely expensive.
Who has turned out worse for us, Champ Bailey or Jairus Byrd? One was a half a million dollar gamble, the other nine million a year for an average player.
It just seems when we go big, we f*** up big.
Sproles was affordable and good, Spiller expensive and not. David bad, Lewis good. Add a few LB's to that list as well
