Extension for Unger
The Saints have interest in an extension for C Max Unger.
Unger's in the final season of a five-year, $25.5 million deal signed in 2012. The Saints view him as more than a short-term rental after trading Jimmy Graham for him and could free up cap space with an extension. 29-year-old Unger regressed with his run blocking last year, but graded as PFF's No. 7 pass-blocking center. Re: Extension for Unger
I think he really solidified that middle of the line last season with somewhat iffy performances on his both sides.
I think re-signing him to an extension would be the smart move, but the F/O better be careful with the structuring of the deal. |

Re: Extension for Unger
I wouldn't mind seeing him sign a 2 year extension. He's a good center and Drew needs someone he can trust up front.

Re: Extension for Unger
Unger counts 6.2 against the cap. An extension can probably lower that a million or two. Mack counts 4 million against Atlanta's cap. Thats probably a good barometer.
He's already the 7th highest OC in the NFL so I don't see him getting a mega-deal. |

Re: Extension for Unger
Get-it-done.
...but I'd still sign 27 year old G/C Stefen Wisniewski if some money could be made available for not only depth, but perhaps to allow either he or Unger to move to guard and improve our quality along the offensive line... ...and we still have a left tackle to address in Terron Armstead... |

Re: Extension for Unger
No-brainer... The guy's a stud who was sandwiched between bad guard play last season.

Re: Extension for Unger
If he regressed in his run game this could be the start of a slide. I'm not saying that it is going to happen but it does make me cautious. He is solid but hopefully Loomis doesn't pull another head scratcher.
