So many LB's...
Free agency officially starts today (March 2nd), and here's a list of released or UFA linebackers I've compiled (in no particular order). RFA's are not listed, nor are players thought to be rather uninspiring as serious prospects. I'm sure I missed a few, so feel free to fill in the gaps if you like.
Dexter Coakley (DAL) to STL Ian Gold (TB) Jeremiah Trotter (PHI) Antonio Pierce (WAS) Ed Hartwell (BAL) Ike Reese (PHI) Morlon Greenwood (MIA) Roman Phifer (NE) Kenyatta Wright (NYJ) T.J. Slaughter (BAL) Warrick Holdman (CLE) Kendrell Bell (PIT) Rob Morris (IND) Jason Gildon (JAC) Quinton Caver (KC) Monty Beisel (KC) Wali Rainer (DET) Chris Claiborne (MIN) Keith Newman (MIN) Jessie Armstead (CAR) Mark Fields (CAR) Sedrick Hodge (NO) Darrin Smith (NO) Orlando Huff (SEA) Tommy Polley (STL) Nate Wayne (PHI) Julian Peterson (SF) franchise With all these LB's available, seems like surely we could pick up a nice addition. I'm as skeptical as the rest of you... My wish list, for the heck of it: 1: Antonio Pierce 2: Ed Hartwell 3: Ian Gold 4: Kendrell Bell 5: Rob Morris Sleepers: T.J. Slaughter, Quentin Caver, Tommy Polley [Edited on 2/3/2005 by mutineer10] |

Knowing the saints and the way they operate we will most likely trip over ourselves to get Hodge and Smith and then realize we already had them. In other words status quo. Remain the same. Go no where.

Is it just me or were we absolutely terrible at the LB position last year? I truly think this is the key to having an upgraded D next season and YES, let\'s go after a Kendrell Bell or even a Jeremiah Trotter and improve our team!!!

Wow, that\'s a pretty impressive list of available players. It kind of reminds me of two or three years ago when all those LBs were available and the Saints had the 3rd most money available under the cap and the team signed Orlando Ruff as the answer. Sure some of us were drooling over Takeo Spikes, but he\'s a big name and the Saints generally don\'t go after big names. Then, the Saints didn\'t even contact Chris Claiborne and he signed with Detroit for $1 million more than the Saints spent of Ruff (that\'s $1 mil over THREE years).
So what you see there is a list of great players that the Saints WON\'T sign. Sorry to be the downer guys, but I\'ve been here for a while and I know the MO. |

ohhh, no, no, no! they could get someone to replace hodge when he walks... like warrick holdman, cleveland- somebody no one has ever heard of. he\'ll be a good deal, an accountant\'s pick.
if no significant addition is made the season oughta be easy to read. first two games and opponents rush for 300 yds... then start hoping for matt lenhart in \'06. |

I see I have sold more than you on Pierce Danno. No prob, but soon as I heard that guy was gonna be a UFA, I slapped a big target on his back. I saw him play a few times being that I live in Cowboys world, and that guy has athleticism and instincts out the wazzoo. And he is only a 4 year player. Definitely would be a great pick up. Then get RT Ross, and away we go. But thanks to Who for squashing what little enthusiasm I had.

It all comes down to: Watson, Bockwaldt, and James Allen.
Which one do I feel most comfortable with? None of \'em! Do I think they can get it done? I don\'t know! Is there a FA linebacker that can get it done? Absolutely!! Will Haslett and Lommis get one? I don\'t know. But, we definately need one! |

I don\'t want to sign the guy, but are you sure Nick Barnett is a free agent?
Pierce and Bell are the two players I would like to see in a Saints uniform next season. |
