Good read I found posted on another board. Goes into Brooks' production vs. salary:
Analyst: Saints need a backup plan 12:30 PM CST on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 Kevin Held / "The Analyst" Perhaps the biggest complain and/or gripe I hear from Saints fans is, “We should’ve kept Jake!â€? Yeah, I know, Delhomme has gone onto bigger and better things (a Super Bowl appearance, for instance) while the Saints continue to wallow in mediocrity. For those fansâ€â€Âhell, for most fansâ€â€ÂAaron Brooks is the problem. Aaron Brooks' numbers indicate he is not worth the same salary as a top five quarterback. “Get rid of Brooks!â€? they shout at the top of their lungs to a choir of the already converted. “Brooks Bashersâ€? know how to mobilize and get their voices heard, especially following a turgid performance by the embattled quarterback. Each of them wishes to be the one to personally give A.B. his walking papers. To a certain extent, I agree with these rabid fans. ....and a little further down: Here’s more food for thought: my inside source, “guy who knows a guy,â€? told me a couple months ago that Brooks’ total salary from last year (2004) was third highest in the NFL, behind Culpepper and Manning. I don’t know about you, folks, but when I think of the three best quarterbacks in the league, I certainly don’t envision Aaron Brooks standing next to Culpepper and Manning. http://www.wwltv.com/sports/stories/....fbda842d.html Although I'm usually not one to take part in the Brooks debates, you freaks have at it. :) |

Some nice work! I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth before it became a 30 page thread. I like Brooks......That\'s all. Is he top 3 in QB\'s......Not Even close! Can he be?......I think so. Hope he gets another full season to try....After that all my bets are off.

Wow, this will stir the pot.
Brooks was paid $3.5 million in 2004, McNabb was paid $4 million, so I immediately question the source. This information is not that hard to find.

I agree with most of that. Most good strategists in ALL walks of life utilize the concept of a contingency plan. It confuses me why the team has not addressed this situation yet. I don\'t see how even the BIGGEST AB supporter could argue against bringing someone else in to challenge, if for no other reason than to push him.
True the defense sucked and true the offense did not live up to pre-season billing(again), but the buck for the offense\'s woes stops at AB. It has nothing to do with AB\'s intelligence or ability. While I will admit that he is not the brightest QB in the league, he definitely has enough brain cells to succeed. And no one questions his ability. He simply has no motivation to improve his game. I\'ve been to the games, I\'ve watched the games, and I can see it. He has not put in the work to improve on reading defenses. He still throws off his back foot sometimes. He doesn\'t protect the ball. He doesn\'t know when to take a sack. These are all things that CAN be corrected if he gave a hoot about doing it at all. Sadly...these are things that will not improve no matter HOW well the defense plays or if the offense plays up to their potential. How long does the club wait for him to start caring? I know AB\'s die hard supporters will say that a great defense will carry the team and we don\'t need a superstar QB(i.e. \'00 Ravens, \'02 Bucs). HELLO!!! This team has obviously been built in a high-powered balanced West coast offense mold, not in a ball control, shutdown defense mold. Therefore they have made the team increasingly more dependent on the success of it\'s offense, and AB IS the leader of the offense. Ultimately he has to accept responsibilty for the offense\'s shortcomings(EVEN IF IT ISN\'T ALL HIS FAULT) and take it upon himself to improve it. This is what winning QBs do. |
